The sequel to Transformers: War of Cybertron, promises to be bigger, better and more exciting in every way. Unlike the game based on the movies, which turned out to be horrible, this series remains quite loyal to the original storyline.Fall of Cybertron is a continuation of the first game, which features the Autobots blasting off into space aboard the Ark and Decepticons hot on their trail. The full game has not been released yet but I did get to try out the Demo for the game, which is now available for download and features both single player and multiplayer campaigns and maps.

Plot

As usual, the player can opt to play as an Autobot or a Decepticon. In the Demo released recently, players who choose the Autobots faction, start the game with Bumblebee as he fights his way through an Ark that is being infiltrated by Megatron’s forces. Starting the game as a Decepticon allows players to fight it out as Starscream, who is tasked with diverting energon.

Gameplay

Gameplay retains a lot of the features of War on Cybertron. However, the game also features significant upgrades to weapons and gear. Also, each Transformer features unique capabilities, which adds an element of strategy, as opposed to destroying everything in sight.

Moreover, each character’s unique skills require players to control and play them differently. Fall of Cybertron does not feature the online co-op campaign mode that was available in War of Cybertron. However, it does bring back Escalation mode, which features progressively tougher waves of enemies as the game progresses.

Multiplayer

Activision has put a lot of effort into the multiplayer mode of Fall of Cybertron, and it seems its efforts have paid off because the gameplay is fun and exciting, and the maps are beautifully designed. There are four classes of multiplayer characters: infiltrator, destroyer, titan and scientist.

The infiltrator is something of a scout, featuring stealth mode and a high level of mobility. This class can be used to quickly secure areas and even launch stealth attacks on unsuspecting opponents. The destroyer class is slower than the infiltrator class but comes with more powerful weapons and better armour.

The Titan is the epitome of destruction and while it is quite slow, it has enough firepower to easily change the tide in any battles. The scientist class is the ‘healer’ in the team, and also the only unit that can fly. In addition to the four basic classes, there are also a number of customisation options that allow users to create their personalised transformers from scratch.

Conclusion

In a world where even game trailers are CGI or Live Action Clips, a demo is the best way to get an idea of how the game is actually going to turn out. Fall of Cybertron is beautifully designed and the story doesn’t feature any of Michael Bay’s awkward twists.

This game is not just meant for those of us who grew up to ‘Tranformers’ cartoons as kids, but to an entire generation of fans captivated by sentient robots and mind-blowing action.
