It was a rainy Sunday when we stepped out to do this shoot on yummy cakes in Colombo, and I think it was the best day! I was sure in the mood to have everything. We wanted to tell you about the BEST place to get a sweet fix when you are craving for it, and you must agree, sometimes when you need something sweet, you just need it, rain or shine! 

Our first stop was at The English Cake Company - The Cakery 

 

Located at Sulaiman Terrace, off Jawatte Rd, they are open from 7am to 10pm and it’s the place for some comfort food. The choice is so good it’s hard to decide on what to order off the menus, so we tried the TOP 3 bestsellers, and I stole 2 cookies to take home. 

White Chocolate and Raspberry Cheesecake: Soft vanilla baked cheesecake with raspberries and white chocolate chunks. 

Squidgy Chocolate Roulade: Flourless soft sponge rolled with whipped cream and fresh dark chocolate mousse. 

Salted Caramel Chocolate Torte: Soft rich chocolate layer with salted caramel on a sweet biscuit base. This won my heart! 

Our second stop was at The Cake Factory 

 

They are located at 91A, Fifth Lane, Colombo 3, and are open from 9am to 7pm. It’s a daily shop with a very stylish interior and the decor is the cake! All the cakes look so beautiful, and are just made with a lot of love by Hafsa. 

 

Here we tried a few must try cakes. 

Ultimate Chocolate Bliss: Hidden under the layer of smooth chocolate ganache are two layers of Belgian white chocolate, with a crunchy cashew chocolate centre. 

Rainbow Cake: Layers of sponge cake in the delightful colours of the rainbow with a hint of strawberry flavoured vanilla frosting. 

Chocolate Treat: Chocolate lovers beware! Intensely rich smooth chocolate cake topped with a glossy chocolate ganache giving this cake a silky, smooth unbeatable chocolate experience. 

Hummingbird Cake: A delightful combination of pineapple, banana and cashew topped with a cream cheese frosting. 

Red Velvet Cupcake: A Southern American favourite. A deep red buttery sponge topped with a lavish swirl of cream cheese frosting. 

Our third and last stop was at Butter Boutique. 

 

Located at No 34, 27th Lane, Colombo 03, it’s a comfy place to walk into. So pink and dainty, it takes you to an English tea party! They are open from 9:30am to 7:30pm. Rukshi sure knows how to make her cakes have personality, and so we picked the best to try when you visit them next. 

Tres Leches (3 Milks Cake): This is a light sponge cake that is soaked in 3 kinds of milk and topped off with whipped cream. 

Double Choc Fudge Cake: A soft gooey chocolate cake topped off with ganache. 

The Oreo: This has an Oreo filling and is topped off with an Oreo frosting and chocolate ganache. 

So I tried all these cakes in one day, and I’m sure you can do the same. It’s the kind of challenge I like to take up! So hope you will try them out, and we have put down the best of the best!
