It has barely been a fortnight since Blac Bagatalle opened their second outlet at No. 32 Bagatalle Road, Colombo 03. The ride has not been the smoothest, but things are taking shape, and the restaurant is now ready to welcome its customers.
“It has not been easy, because setting up this place and bringing it to operational standards was a herculean task. Could be construction, could be statutory approvals, supplies, etc. It has not been the smoothest ride we have had. Nevertheless, we are blessed to have a dedicated team around us. They made it possible. Anyone working for us is not bound by the clock. They are bound to do what needs to be done. That is the spirit we carry. That really enabled us to do better things and to do more,” explained Kaushal Mendis, one of the founding figures of this multi-cuisine eatery.
Having inaugurated this restaurant along with his wife, Amoda Ratnayake, following the success of its first cafe in Nawala, the restaurant now operates from 7 am-11 pm daily.

Spaces
One of their main features that customers find inviting is their conservatory. The visually distinctive space offering natural light by day and a starlit ambience by night is especially suited for dinners and events. Spacious enough to house 40, it is situated at the entrance.
They also offer other spaces that include the Café lounge for 14, a ground floor dining area for 12, a 1st floor private lounge for 15 and outdoor seating for 14.
The Garden setting is also great for a chill meet up, while their indoor space- The Café, is suitable for everyday dining, coffee, and informal meetings. Their meeting room is private, fully equipped with AV facilities, and designed for business meetings, workshops, and presentations. The Lounge, designed for private dining, is an exclusive space for gatherings, celebrations, and group dining experiences. Finally, their content space is a shoot-ready environment suitable for photography, videography, and brand content creation.
With the many spaces they offer, Blac has positioned itself as the new go-to place with its welcoming atmosphere.
Cuisine
Blac Bagatalle serves a multi-cuisine, mouthwatering menu. Some of the local favourites include Jaffna Curry Kottu, Pineapple Rice, Chicken Linguine, Hot Butter Cuttlefish, Chu Chee Prawns and Mongolian Rice. They also have Flat White, Caramel Macchiato, Lime juice and Chocolate shake.
Blac comes as a complete package as a halal-certified place with flexible bookings for private and corporate use.
With their tagline of – Where Nature Meets Flavour – they go beyond the traditional cafe culture, offering an adaptable environment for work, meetings, socializing, and content creation.
“Kevin came up with a very nice tagline to say Blac is all nature meeting flavour. That is what we are driving. We were running our operations in Nawala for about two and a half years, and we wanted to see what is next,” added Mendis, during a briefing and a tour to a select group of reporters. “We have been looking for a location for about one and a half years to establish ourselves."
The BLAC Bagatelle, with its warm ambience and curated menu, is an ideal venue for casual dining, meetings and private events.
