There’s a certain kind of magic that happens around a dining table. Plates fill up, laughter spills over, and every dish seems to carry a memory along with it. On 19 September, My Sister’s Kitchen will recreate that very magic with an intimate, home-style dining experience that celebrates family, flavour, and the joy of eating together.

At the heart of this evening is Thushara Innasithamby, the force behind My Sister’s Kitchen, who has been winning over Colombo food lovers with her soulful take on traditional Jaffna cuisine. Built on recipes passed down through generations, her kitchen has become a space where food isn’t just cooked, it’s shared, remembered, and deeply felt.

Guests will begin the night with a welcome drink, toddy or lime juice, poured generously and without limit, before easing into starters like hot-hot mutton rolls, tangy mixed achaaru, fried handello, and the show-stopping Jaffna Kool.

The main meal, served on banana leaves, is a spread of comfort and indulgence: keerai pittu, rich mutton and chicken curries, seafood favourites like prawn and crab curry, gingelly oil omelette, and the much-loved Jaffna pol sambol.

Dessert promises just as much warmth, with rasavalli kanji, Jaffna sweets, Rio ice cream, and fresh fruits to end the evening on a sweet note.

What makes this event special isn’t just the menu, it’s the way it’s designed. Thushara’s table seats six, encouraging conversation, story-sharing, and the easy laughter that comes with dining family-style. For larger groups, another table will be set outdoors in the garden, inviting guests to eat under the stars.

To keep things personal and relaxed, My Sister’s Kitchen encourages guests to bring their own favourite beverages to pair with the meal. It’s all about creating the feeling of dining at home, without the stress of hosting.

For Thushara Innasithamby, food is never just about cooking. It’s about memory, belonging, and carrying forward the flavours of her heritage. This dinner is her way of opening her kitchen - and her heart - to others.

So if you’ve been craving the warmth of a home-cooked meal, the flavours of Jaffna, and an evening where food feels like family, My Sister’s Kitchen is setting the table for you.
