views 11The wait is finally over. This weekend, Colombo is bracing itself for a whirlwind of comic mayhem as Jehan Aloysius’s smash-hit comedy, Bengal Bungalow, takes over the Lionel Wendt Theatre on the 4th and 5th of July 2026 at 7.30 p.m.
With the 22nd Anniversary Production just days away, tickets are disappearing faster than a pilot with amnesia! If history is any indication, this madcap comedy is on track for another set of sold-out houses, following its massive success in 2004, 2010, 2016, and 2018.
A Crash Course in Chaos
Set in Bengal during the late 1930s, this fast-paced farce revolves around a British family whose peaceful residence is turned upside down when a British pilot accidentally crashes his aircraft through their newly refurbished guestroom. The pilot emerges from the wreckage with a severe case of amnesia, triggering a domino effect of misunderstandings.
A Star-Studded, Reimagined Cast
Popularly regarded as Colombo's favourite comedy since it premiered in 2004, this 22nd Anniversary Production by CentreStage Productions is newly reimagined for a fresh cast and is not a replica of previous stagings. The stellar lineup includes Dion Nanayakkara, Roshni De Bond, Harshith Karunaratna, Marissa Jansz, Aadil Osman, Radhika Ranaweera, Movin Perera, and talented newcomers. In a historic first for the show, playwright and director Jehan Aloysius will step onto the stage himself to play the role of 'Papa', following his recent performance as Scrooge in A Christmas Carol.
