Soprano opera singer Kishani Jayasinghe drew in a full house on a Thursday night at her concert ‘Kishani Sings with Friends’. She sang alongside three highly acclaimed musicians; Soundarie David on piano, Anandabare on violin and Sureka Amarasignhe on flute.

Compered by the ever so witty Arun Dias Bandaranaike, the concert started off with ‘Fantastique Opera Francais’ which, among others, featured an extract from Leila of Bizet’s Pearl Fishers, a role that Kishani performed on an international stage that was the recipient of high praises. Next were ‘Spirit of Sacred Songs’ in which she sang a stunning rendition of ‘Amazing Grace’ and ‘Danno Budunge’.

The final two segments were of ‘Timeless Treasures’ and ‘Festive Fantasy’ where Kishani moved away from operatic pieces to a few old time favourites and seasonal songs such as ‘Kiss Me Generously’ and ‘Holy Night’.

As the crowd cheered for Kishani, shouting for an encore, she returned to the stage to sing the biggest crowd pleaser for the night – My Fair Lady’s ‘Lovely’, which aroused many among the crowd to sing along with her.

Upon the conclusion of the show, Kishani received a well-deserved standing ovation from the audience. “There’s nothing like performing at home” she says, “you’ll are my hardest audience!”.

With beautiful live music courtesy of some of Sri Lanka’s most renowned musicians, Kishani executed a remarkable show for all.

We spoke to some of the audience members and they had nothing but great things to say:
