I never considered myself a big fan of desserts. I couldn't care less where we went for sweets and always went along with whatever spot others picked. But these 5 places flipped a switch. Now I'm dragging friends to these specific dessert spots because they made me fall in love with sweets. Here are my top picks for desserts in Colombo. (All of these dessert preferences I've listed below are subjective. Just a list based on personal experiences.)

Simply Strawberries by Jagro 

Hands down, my favourite spot for chocolate desserts. And by chocolate desserts, I mean their chocolate sandwich cake. A soft chocolate cake soaked in syrup, layered with fresh strawberries and whipped cream, then finished with their special chocolate topping. They also offer a wide range of other chocolate and strawberry desserts, all equally tempting.

Butter Boutique

This place has some of the best cakes in Colombo. The most popular dessert here is apparently the tres leches. I haven’t tried it yet, but it’s a known fact that it’s the best. What I have tried are the Black Forest cake, the Peanut Butter Caramel cake, and the Classic Chocolate cake. I can say they all tasted amazing.

The English Cake Company - The Cakery 

I go here for the cheesecake. The cheesecake at The Cakery is, in my opinion, second to none. They have a good variety of cheesecakes, and they're made to perfection with great flavours, great texture, and every bite is addictive.

Hyve Dessert Bar

Hyve is known for its crème brûlée, and this is where I tried it for the first time. I'm glad I did because it tasted heavenly. If you want to try crème brûlée, Hyve Dessert Bar is the place to go. They also have a really good selection of other amazing desserts to choose from. I mean, 'dessert bar' is right there in the name for good reason. Next time a sweet craving hits, you know where to go.

Crepe Runner

Sri Lanka's very own crepe specialists, and they absolutely deliver. Their crepes are always fresh, packed with flavour, and generously filled, hitting that perfect balance of sweetness and texture. With so many delicious options, it's hard to choose, but my top picks are the Kinder Bueno Nutella crepe, KitKat Nutella crepe, and the KitKat strawberry crepe. Seriously, some of the best I've had.
