views 49This week on Buzz with Danu, I’m celebrating a milestone that’s loud, legendary, and full of laughter — because my guests have been waking up Sri Lanka for an entire decade! Dom and Asanka from Yes FM Mornings are hitting the big 10! Ten years of chaos, charm, and caffeine-fueled mornings that made us laugh, scream, and sometimes even question reality. From their unpredictable banter to the kind of energy only two people on a sugar rush could bring, Dom & Asanka have redefined what it means to have fun on radio.

Today, we’re doing it the Buzz way — 10 Questions for 10 Years — no filters, no scripts, just pure madness.
Let’s dive in and find out what keeps these two going after a decade of early mornings, hot mics, and way too many coffee cups.
10 Questions for 10 Years with Dom & Asanka
1. As everyone knows, I'm a real morning person. Not! It was torture waking up so early. But you get used to it, I guess.
2. Hahaha.... So we were at a very loud, big match outdoor broadcast with lots of papare in the background, and we accidentally let a profanity slip. No one heard thankfully.
3. Ambitious, Determined, Unrelenting.
4. A little boy, maybe 5 or 6, ran up to me at a Christmas broadcast and hugged my legs super tight and said he loved me so much. His mum was right there watching and didn't do much to pull him off me. Asa asked if there was an illicit romance he didn't know about.
5. It's a perfect formula we brought to the industry when we started together 10 years ago. It's about being true to who we are. No accents, fake names and stories. If a story happened in Sinhala, we say it as is.
6. It has to be with Mahela Jayawardena. We learnt so much about behind the scenes with the cricket team.
7. Asa will agree, he's always late! We share the chaos management as a team.
8. Party Rock Anthem - LMFAO
9. It's actually 7 am (don't give them ideas). We've done it all. We even broadcast from the inside of a moving car, driving to work. So anything is possible! And mocktails? Come on on Danu!
10. Thanks for hanging around, guys! Stay with us. It's gonna be one hell of a ride!
1. We were basically running on pure radio caffeine. Straight into prime time with zero warm-up, no easing in, no test run. It was wild, totally unpredictable, and honestly, we just trusted the chemistry. We messed up a few times, sure, but we also pulled in thousands. No regrets.
2. Oh, we’ve had our share of slip-ups. Said the wrong name, roasted the wrong politician, once forgot we were live and started planning breakfast on air. There was even a time someone pretty powerful called the studio mid-show. The apology was polite… but the replay still cracks us up.
3. Funny. Dramatic. Extra. That’s us. Dom brings the theatre, I bring the chaos, and somehow, it’s worked for a decade. Equal parts logic, laughter, and total madness.
4. We’ve had listeners pull over to cry, send voice notes from labour rooms, sneak the show on at work, even message us from wedding cars saying, “We couldn’t start the day without you.” It’s more than just a show at this point, it's family.
5. We never tried to act like “just radio people.” We started doing visual radio before it was even a thing. We’ve jumped onto Instagram, TikTok, live events anything that connects with people. Playing it safe was never really our style.
6. Mahela for sure. But also, the artists who came on air and said, “I listen to Yes101 every morning.” That never gets old. Having the country’s biggest names say they start their day with us is the real win.
7. Who’s late? Probably me. I’ll admit it. But somehow, I always manage to walk in like I meant to be. And if the show needs saving even from myself, I’ll handle it. That’s self-rescue at its finest.
8. Macklemore’s Can’t Hold Us - that hunger and energy. Kanye’s Champions - pure fire. Those songs aren’t just favourites; they capture exactly what it feels like when we go live.
9. Radio’s not dying, it’s just changing. It’s radio plus digital, plus live events, plus everything else. In 10 years, who knows, maybe we’re still on air at 7 a.m., or maybe we’re broadcasting from a beach somewhere. Either way, people will still be listening.
10. Thank you for sticking with us through everything, the mornings, the madness, the milestones. You didn’t just tune in; you made us part of your lives. Ten years down, and we’re nowhere near done.
