Nadine Samarasinghe

Nadine Samarasinghe is living testimonial that a woman can be so much more than a pretty face. Singing siren, youth ambassador and musician par excellence, Nadine is a good-looking woman with real talent, and is a rare find in an overcrowded field, like music.

She started playing the piano at age 4, went on to get her classical training, and performed first at the tender age of seven or so. An alumnus of Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya, she favours soul, RnB and hip-hop when performing, since she feels she can relate to such music. A strong advocate of giving one’s fullest towards whatever endeavour, it’s easy to reason why Nadine is so much more than a singer or musician, she is a passionate performer who gets on stage and puts everything out there, and it is indeed inspiring to see her perform!

She holds her LTCL and ATCL from Trinity College (Vocal), and is a pianist and violinist accredited by the Royal School of London. Several feathers adorn her hat, and among those are numerous performances at prestigious events of international repute.

Child pianist at the Classical Concert Programme Three Junior Forum One organised by the Performing Arts Unincorporated Presenters back in 1995, the event foreboded so much success and acclaim that Nadine seemed destined to.

She was the guest artiste at launch of the Sri Lanka’s Alzheimer’s Foundation 2001, Indoor Cricket World Cup Opening Ceremony 2004, IIFA 2010, Audi launch 2011, Miss France Fashion Show 2013, and a profuse amount of launch ceremonies, fashion shows and high profile events of similar magnitude. A proud product of the nation, she’s a touring artiste as well.

Quite the charismatic and charming personality that she is, it should come as little surprise that Nadine bagged the People’s Choice Award at “Voice of Asia” International Song Festival 2004, Kazakhstan, at the Finale.

Nadine’s nomination for “Top Fashionable Singer of the Year” at the Fashion Asia Awards in China 2013, goes on to show Nadine’s love affair besides music, fashion!

Nadine organised ‘Music Heals’ last year, a concert to raise funds for the children’s ward of the Maharagama Cancer Hospital, which was held at the Russian Cultural Centre, with an impressive line-up of musicians. The event, in many ways, is a combination of two of Nadine’s ardent passions: music and children.

Nadine often finds herself in the company of kids, who she completely adores, and the love of whom made her choose teaching right after school.

A rather surprising feat for someone from the field, Nadine organised Shades of Music in 2013 serving to prove her benevolent nature, and her idea that everyone with talent deserves equal opportunities.  Shades of Music was a concert organised and directed for up-coming artistes from ages five to 22.

Most recently, Nadine addressed and represented Sri Lanka at the SAARC Youth Entrepreneurs Summit held in Pakistan.

Well ahead of her time, and successful and happy in her career choice, Nadine is an extraordinary musician, performer and woman, and while wishing her all success in times to come, it is certain that she makes for one of the most inspiring cover stories today.
