If you are a traveller and visiting certain places is in your bucket list, these are some must visit places in Sri Lanka which will provide you with memories to last a lifetime. Blessed with a constantly sunny weather, Sri Lanka is an adventure for backpackers, waiting to begin.

Sigiriya - The ancient rock fortress is a climb of a lifetime and has a pre historic value embarked upon it dating back to the era during kings' reign. Sigiriya frescoes are always spoken of and the picturesque view when you reach the top, is breathtaking. The climb may appear to be hot, humid and frustrating but when you're right at the top, it is rewarding.

Nuwara Eliya - The temperature drops down to a low of 18 degrees, and it is quite a change from the constantly experienced 32-38 degrees heat. Beautiful flowers, farms, and a country lifestyle very intimate with nature could be seen when visited. As there is a distinctive difference between Nuwara Eliya and other areas of the country, it is referred to as little England by most travellers.

Galle - The island's most precious gift to travelers is the wonderful coastal belt all around the country. The beautiful beaches, never ending ocean and sunny weather are all you need to enjoy. Many seaborne activities such as boat trips, sailing, wading and surfing could be experienced as well as underwater experiences such as snorkeling, diving and swimming for those interested. The rich marine diversity, coral reefs, exotic fish and the aquatic life is unique to its location, and what is experienced in the southern coastal belt, cannot be experienced elsewhere in the country.

Trincomalee - If you haven't come across natural hot springs, this is the place to be to experience nature at its best. The coastal belt is exquisitely different to that of Galle and the beaches are white and sandy, where its waters a different but calming shade of blue. The natural harbour which gained international recognition in the past and the present is a satisfying sight, reminding us of the inimitability of nature's creations.

Jaffna - Culturally dynamic and traditionally alive fraction of the country is a must visit area to experience divergence at its best. Travelling in bicycle is the most popular form of transportation while others travel by foot. The road networks and industrialization is a recent introduction to Jaffna, which underwent a 30 year conflict period. However, there are certain reminders of this tragic period still available for the purpose of witnessing to those interested. Although the deployment of the Army is still strongly felt, the livelihood of the people continues on a positive note.

Arugam Bay - The hippy surf town is ideal if you're a surfing fan. Even if you're not, there are plenty of hammocks hung for a good chill and tan session. Kite flying and shallow fishing too can be seen in this narrow beach strip. Arugam Bay was forgotten until recently where it was revived once again to be in the top five locations for surfing. It attracts a large number of tourists during the season for surfing and is perfect for a summer holiday.

Singharaja - The tropical rainforest which has been declared as world heritage site by the UNESCO is a hotspot for biodiversity in the island. It is an adventurous site to visit and many unique species of endemic birds and animals could be spotted along the way.  The forest is full of tall trees but makes an ideal ground for those who love to trek. It is an exciting adventure if you love nature and wild life.

Horton Place/World's End - Although it is named the World's End, factually it isn't so even though it does appear to be that way. The walk to World's End (which is the fun part of the journey) is approximately 4 kms where you can witness wild life in its natural habitat if undisturbed. The best time to travel is early morning before the clouds roll in and blur the scenery of village tea plantation below, which spans to a large area and an unfettered view towards the coast.

Kandy - As cliché as it sounds, if Kandy isn't visited at least once, the journey is incomplete. The unique scenic beauty of its captures the travelers eye, encouraging many to visit pre historic religious sites such as the Temple of tooth relic, and the prestigious Kandyan kingdom it is well known for. Kandy is also well known for its admirable climatic conditions and unpolluted scenery.

Bandarawela - If you're looking for peace and tranquility, the Japanese peace pagoda, which is located overlooking Bandarawela is ideal for visiting. In addition the hill area and the tea estates that spans for miles is a treat to the eye. Indefinitely, it is the best location to relax and enjoy a calm holiday away from the hectic lifestyle in the city.
