Valentine’s Day: The Singles Edition

The holiday of love is back - this means having to put up with an abundance of red decor, sappy songs, and mushy quotes on Facebook. Which is all well and good - if you’re in a relationship. For all those happily single meanwhile, the days leading up to, and the Day itself is a cringe worthy experience.

But it doesn't have to be! We asked all the single folk what their plans were for celebrating Valentine’s. Here’s what they had to say.

Sabeeha - By stuffing my face.

Aishath - I'm in a relationship with things like books, my bed, anime, friends etc I'll be spending the day with these committed entities and celebrating the day.

Vishmi - Spoil myself with cake, chocolates and flowers. Because why not?

Caryll - I think one of the cinemas should organise a singles movie marathon. But they should be fun movies. Not the lovey-dovey ones. These should also have fun games and competitions.

Shamilka - Treat yourself day! Go out for some shopping or food, have a good day out with other single friends. Attend an anti-valentine party. Go to a religious place of choice and pray that your next Valentine’s Day will be celebrated with someone special. Clean your home or enjoy the day with your loved ones! After all the day is all about love!

Shenal - Stay home and work on anything that takes you to success or to your dream.  This is the day everything is doubly priced; so going out on that day does not sound like smart choice. So while everyone is spending, you start working on something that will lead you to your dreams!

Tai - Valentine's  Day is not about couples. Celebrating with your loved ones can be like your mother, father, brother or sister. In Sri Lanka, Valentine's Day has gone too far.

Fernanda - In my country, the couples celebrate their love on Saint Anthony's day (June, 12). That's my current excuse to skip Valentines - and I get at least 4 months to forget about it. But we must celebrate being single as well. Who knows when the relationship status will change?!!

Senal - Pamper yourself with some gifts and chocolates, go to a spa and chill.

Zeeshaan - Simply love yourself and do what your heart says. Follow your passion and be true to your one and only love which is your dream and say you'll work hard for it and prove it that you're the best and you somehow made it towards it.

Diyath - Celebrate yourself. Love that you have yourself, take yourself out, pamper, dine out by the sea in candle light and make it the best Valentine’s Day ever.

Gamitha - Party with other single buddies.

Lahiru - Buy new car parts for my baby and take her on a long drive with no real destination - PERFECT!

Du - Rent a partner.

Dilon - I'm in an eternal relationship with my bed.

Rehan - Go and plant a tree. Few years later you can hug it even if you are still single. So you won’t be alone.
