From timeless carols to a touch of theatre, soul, and a whole lot of festive love, this is not just a concert… It’s a Christmas experience. So grab your hot chocolate, get comfy, and let’s talk all things Christmas, music, and magic right here, on Buzz with Danu!
1. Last year’s show was a hit. Sri Lanka clearly loved it! What made you both decide to bring A Classic Christmas back again this year?
Billy & Devashrie: Last year was absolutely magical! The love we received was overwhelming, and we realised that Sri Lanka is truly hungry for this kind of festive concert experience. That energy and excitement inspired us to bring it back and make it even bigger, brighter, and more heartwarming this year.
2. You’ve described this concert as “like being part of a Christmas movie.” So tell me — are we talking more Love Actually or Home Alone vibes?
Billy & Devashrie: (Laughs) A little bit of both! It’s that feeling of stepping into a Christmas movie you’ll see it, hear it, and feel it. Every note, every moment, every light cue has been crafted to make you feel the warmth, joy, and nostalgia of the season.
3. The name A Classic Christmas sounds elegant — but you’ve said it’s not “classical” music. What makes this show classic in your eyes?
Billy & Devashrie: The word Classic here stands for quality, timelessness, and that sense of familiarity you can’t help but love. It’s not classical music per se, but rather A-grade music and production. We’re celebrating the Christmas classics, the songs that have stood the test of time and still fill hearts with joy.
4. You mentioned that 95% of the setlist is in English. Are we going full-on Bing Crosby and Mariah Carey this time, or are there a few local twists?
Billy & Devashrie: Expect timeless carols and your favourite festive anthems, all done with our signature touch. About 95% of the songs will be in English, but we’ve woven in a few surprises — melodies that will connect generations and bring everyone together in one big sing-along moment.
5. You both said the theatrical side and musicians are a big highlight this year. What kind of magic can we expect on stage?
Billy & Devashrie: Oh, this year’s production is truly special. We’re bringing in a strong theatrical element that takes the concert beyond music; it’s storytelling through song. And our musicians? They’re absolute gems, God-given talents who elevate the entire show. You’ll feel every chord, every beat, and every emotion.
6. You come from strong Christian and worship backgrounds. How does that faith influence how you perform and prepare for a concert like this?
Billy & Devashrie: Honestly, that’s the hardest part, finding balance between artistry and devotion. But our faith is at the centre of everything we do. Having grown up in church worship teams, we’ve learned that music can be both performance and prayer. With God’s help, everything comes together beautifully.
7. I love that 2FORTY2 and the Methodist College Senior Choir are joining in. What do each of these groups bring to the sound and soul of the show?
Billy & Devashrie: Billy’s the leader of 2FORTY2, so naturally, people expect to see them, and this year, they’ll be performing some Sinhala Christmas classics, which adds a lovely local flavour. The Methodist College Senior Choir, on the other hand, brings that angelic choral sound that defines Christmas. Their joyful energy is infectious — they truly complete the festive picture.
8. I heard Devashrie gets emotional; apparently, she even cried during rehearsals for her own song! What’s the story there?
Billy & Devashrie: (Smiles) Oh yes, it’s true! Devashrie got so moved by her own song that she ended up in tears mid-rehearsal. But that’s the beauty of this concert, it’s not just about singing, it’s about feeling every lyric, every note, and letting it touch your soul first before sharing it with others.
9. What’s one Christmas tradition or memory from your childhood that still lives in your heart today?
Billy & Devashrie: Definitely the candlelight moment during Silent Night. There’s something sacred and still about that moment, the lights dim, the crowd joins in softly, and you can almost feel heaven touch earth. That feeling is something we try to recreate every year.
10. Billy, I heard your mum had a special Christmas song tradition. Tell us about that! That’s too sweet to skip!
Billy: Yes! My mum used to play Jim Reeves’ Silver Bells every year starting from the 1st of December morning and every day till Christmas. That song was the official signal that the season had begun in our house. Even now, when I hear those first notes, I’m instantly that little boy again, filled with wonder.
11. You said this concert feels like a story with emotions, highs, and heart. If this show were a movie, what would the final scene feel like?
Billy & Devashrie: It would be a moment where everyone in the audience feels connected, joyful tears, laughter, and peace all in one. This concert moves through every emotion of the season: excitement, nostalgia, love, and faith. It’s more than a show; it’s a journey.
12. And finally, your message for everyone watching and attending, what do you want people to take home in their hearts this Christmas?
Billy & Devashrie: Let’s try to live a little more like Jesus this season, selfless, kind, and giving. Not because we have to, but because it fills our hearts. Give freely, love deeply, and do it with a cheerful heart. When you give with love, God blesses you tenfold. That’s the real spirit of Christmas. ❤️
