Kosh Hewage on Building Sri Lanka’s Next Fashion Ambassadors

Every year, hundreds of young Sri Lankans step onto a runway with one dream—to represent the country on an international stage. Behind that dream is Kosh Hewage, National Director of Face of Sri Lanka, who has consistently worked to discover fresh talent and prepare them for the global spotlight.

Having had the privilege of judging this year’s competition, I witnessed firsthand the passion, confidence, and determination these contestants brought to the stage. It was a slick, well-executed production, and more importantly, it reminded us that fashion is no longer just about looking good—it’s about representing a nation.

Here’s my conversation with Kosh.

Danu: Every year you raise the bar. Looking back at Face of Sri Lanka 2026, what made this year’s competition special for you?

Kosh: This year was all about quality. The contestants came prepared; they understood the responsibility of representing Sri Lanka internationally, and the level of professionalism was remarkable. That made judging incredibly competitive.

Danu: As one of the judges, I have to admit—I didn’t envy the final decision! How difficult was it for you to narrow it down to just two winners?

Kosh: It was extremely difficult because every finalist had something unique. We weren’t simply choosing the best-looking contestant. We were looking for confidence, communication, stage presence, discipline, and someone who could proudly represent Sri Lanka internationally.

Danu: Modelling today isn’t just about striking a pose anymore. What qualities were you hoping to discover in this year’s contestants?

Kosh: Personality, confidence, humility, and the willingness to learn. International competitions demand much more than appearance. Contestants must become ambassadors for their country.

Danu: One thing I genuinely appreciated was how well the event flowed. It was quick, organised and refreshingly on time, which is almost a miracle in event management! How much planning goes into making a show feel so effortless?

Kosh: Months of preparation. A seamless show is only possible because of the dedication of an incredible team working behind the scenes. I’m grateful to everyone who contributed to making it happen.

Danu: We often hear young people say they want to become models. What advice would you give someone hoping to stand on this stage one day?

Kosh: Invest in yourself. Build your confidence, stay disciplined, remain humble, and understand that modelling is a profession that requires commitment—not just good photographs.

Danu: Sri Lanka has incredible talent. Do you think we’re finally getting the recognition we deserve internationally?

Kosh: Absolutely. Every year we’re becoming more visible, and our contestants continue to prove that Sri Lanka can compete with the very best. We just need to keep believing in our talent.

Danu: Congratulations to Selani Dharmaratane and Wenura Jayawardene. What advice have you given them before they head to Face of Asia?

Kosh: Represent Sri Lanka with pride. Stay authentic, work hard, and enjoy every moment. Opportunities like these can change lives.

Danu: Finally… after judging this year’s competition, I walked away feeling genuinely inspired by how many young people are chasing their dreams. What would you like to say to every finalist who didn’t take home a crown?

Kosh: Never let one competition define your journey. This is only the beginning. Continue growing, keep learning, and believe in yourself. Success comes in many forms.

Judging Face of Sri Lanka 2026 was a reminder that behind every runway walk is a young person with a dream. Some arrived hoping to win a crown, but all of them left with something far more valuable: experience, confidence, and the belief that they belong on bigger stages.

Huge congratulations to Selani Dharmaratane and Wenura Jayawardene, who will now represent Sri Lanka at Face of Asia 2026 in South Korea. Make us proud!

And to Kosh and his team, thank you for creating a platform that continues to inspire a new generation of Sri Lankan talent. The future of fashion in Sri Lanka is walking in the right direction.
