Ticks are a common problem almost every dog owner faces and solution seem short lived or few and far apart.
Ticks are caused mainly because of the condition of the environment the pet lives in. Be it from the garden, roadside, backyard or even the house, any infected area is quick to give ticks to the dog.
In Sri Lanka three types of ticks can be found. Due to the long term usage of drugs dogs tend to grow immune to dog medication and begin to resist any cure the drug may bring about.
WHAT CAN I DO
There are plenty of good drugs in the market. One type of medication is to apply the solution on the whole body of the pet, by giving a bath in the solution. This general bath can be repeated every three weeks to a month.
Another treatment is the “spot-on” remedy. A small quantity of the solution needs to be applied to the spine of the dog. This has to be repeated every three to six weeks, by carefully following instruction on the labelling.
If the condition persists, or seems out of control even after the use of over-the-counter drugs, consult a vet immediately.
