When a dog is regularly exercised their nails are naturally trimmed because of the friction.
Dogs that are not exercised or left to run around will end up with long nails
Dogs that have aged and are unable to move about as much as they used to will also have long nails
Osteoarthritis also known as degenerative arthritis or degenerative joint disease degrades the dog’s limbs leaving it immobile and thus unable to excerise
What happens when the nails grow?
When nails are not cut on time they tend to curve and grow into the dog’s flesh leaving it in immense pain which then leads to an infection
How to trim the dogs nails
This should be done by a vet because if the nail is trimmed in excess the dog will start bleeding. All dogs will react adversely therefore use a muzzle, restrain and pacify the dog.
In a worst case scenario the dog will have to be sedated.
