Last year the Tech Page reviewed Razor’s Project Fiona, an amazing new tablet that was in development at the time. Not all development projects make it to the end consumer, but in the case of Project Fiona, consumers will be able to get their hands on the revolutionary device as soon as the first quarter of 2013.

Fortunately, Razor has decided to dump the code name “Fiona” in favour of “Edge”. The company has also decided to release two version of the gaming tablet : Razor Edge and Razor Edge Pro. Both tablets are high-end gaming devices designed to allow players to play PC-like games on the move.

Add-ons

There are numerous add-ons available. The tablet can thus be transformed into a console or notebook.

Tablet Mode: This is obviously designed for strategy games like Total War or Civilisations, where a touchscreen surface allows for a greater interaction with the interface and control of the game.

Keyboard Mode: This basically involves docking the tablet onto a keyboard and is better suited for role playing games.

Mobile Console: This involves the gamepad add-on and allows players to use the Edge like a PSP.

Home Console : Users can use this system to dock the tablet to a desktop display or hook up and hook up more consoles for co-op play.

Pricing

Obviously this type of gaming system is not going to come to Sri Lanka soon after its release; it could take months. Therefore, the best thing to do would be to either go to the US and buy it or buy it online through ebay or something.

However, bear in mind that neither of these devices are cheap. The Razor Edge costs $999 and the Razor Edge Pro costs $1299.

Verdict

If you are familiar with Razor products, then you know they are well-regarded for their quality and versatility. Judging by the specs alone, the Razor Edge certainly meets those high standards.

Of course its going to take awhile for us to know if the hands-on experience is as good as the specs sheet. Either way, I’m pretty sure this device automatically makes it to every gamer’s wish list.
