The Nexus 6 maybe the most anticipated Android device, but it is the new OS, Android Lollipop that really deserves attention. The new OS is stunning and comes loaded with a whole bunch of new features and the new Google design philosophy: material design. I have listed my favourite Lollipop features below.

Material Design - This is my favourite feature. It is an exciting new look that gives Android its unique sense of character. The new design is cleaner and more intuitive with a better use of drop-shadows and transitions. The whole purpose is to make the user-experience more intuitive. You can already see some of the effects of material design on Chrome for Android, Google Play Newsstand and Google Hangouts. Compared to the iOS, Material Design is more colourful and seems to have more depth. This is something you either love or tolerate.

Enhanced Notifications - Users can customise their notifications to ensure that only certain people and notifications (dubbed "priority mode") get through. This is great, when you want to avoid the constant stream of spam or unimportant message alerts. In addition, now users can respond directly through their lock screens.

Battery Saver - The new battery saver feature extends battery life by 90 minutes. More importantly, an estimated amount of time needed to charge the device, and when charging, informs the user how much more time until its ready to go. Now that I see this feature, I wonder how so many others could have missed it.

Security - Similar to changes made on the Chrome OS and Chrome Browser, the Lollipop will allow users to create multiple user accounts or even enter on guest user mode. It also comes loaded with Android Smart Lock, which allows you to control security by pairing it with a trusted device like a wearable or even a user's car.

Performance - A new Android Runtime system provides 4x performance improvements, smoother UI and better back grounded apps and services. Moreover, it will support 64-bit devices, which means Android will now support desktop-class processor and apps. Google also plans to start shipping 64-bit native apps like Chrome, Gmail, Calendar, and Google Play Music.

Media - Lollipop will also feature improvements to the media system with lower latency audio input, multi-channel audio streaming, and more support for USB-related microphones, speakers or accessories. For those who are interested in the photographic element, it is interesting to note that new OS can capture full resolution frames around 30fps and support raw formats like YUV and Bayer RAW.

In addition, Lollipop will feature Google Now, Android TV and a whole bunch of other stuff. While users in Sri Lanka may not get the same level of access to these apps, they are certainly positive developments for Android users.
