And in Kandy, what should’ve been a routine beauty appointment sends seven women to the ER. From power plays to power outages, it’s been one of those weeks. Let’s get into it.
Coldplay, Caught & Cancelled?
You know it’s serious when a concert clip causes a corporate shake-up. Andy Byron, CEO of the tech company Astronomer, has just stepped down after a video of him getting very cosy with a woman at a Coldplay concert went viral. That woman? Kristin Cabot, his company’s HR chief. Yep. HR. The place where you're meant to go when this happens.
The internet did what it does best - speculated, subtweeted, and sleuthed - and soon, Byron’s professional title came with a side of scandal. Astronomer’s statement confirmed his resignation “effective immediately,” with the usual notes about privacy and dignity blah blah, but we all know the damage was done the moment someone hit record.
Let’s just say the concert wasn’t the only thing going live that night.
Last Word: Maybe next time, keep your hands - and your HR department - where everyone’s reputations stay intact.
SRK No-Show Sends Fans into a Spiral
It was supposed to be the event of the year. The grand return of Shah Rukh Khan to Sri Lanka: cue the fan edits, the countdowns, the dreams of brushing shoulders with Bollywood royalty. But just like that, poof, the King pulled out.
Citing “unavoidable personal reasons,” organisers confirmed that SRK will no longer be making his much-hyped visit to Colombo this August. And let’s just say, the heartbreak was instant. The WhatsApp forwards? Premature. The outfit planning? Wasted. The excitement? Crushed like a biscuit under a bus.
In true Lankan style, though, the show must go on. The event is still set to feature big names and glittering performances. But for the thousands who grew up swooning over Rahul from Dil To Pagal Hai or Veer from Veer-Zaara, there’s no replacement. Just vibes. Disappointed, heartbroken vibes.
Last Word: He promised us lights, cameras, and maybe a glimpse of his dimples. We cleared our schedules, prepped our outfits, and rehearsed our swoons. And then, heartbreak. No SRK. No magic. Just one big collective sigh.
Beauty, But Make It Toxic
It was supposed to be a routine trip to the salon: a little pampering, a little self-care. Instead, it turned into a full-blown medical emergency. In Kandy, seven women, four staff and three customers were hospitalised after collapsing inside a salon on Peradeniya Road. The culprit? Toxic fumes from a generator that was running indoors during a power cut, while the air conditioning was still on.
With poor ventilation and zero safety precautions, the air turned lethal fast. Everyone inside reportedly lost consciousness before being rushed to the hospital. Thankfully, all survived, but the question lingers: how many more “accidents” before we start taking basic health and safety seriously?
Last Word: A blow-dry shouldn't end in an ambulance ride. Maybe it's time we stop treating safety as optional.
Until next week, stay sharp, stay grounded, and remember, not everything that goes viral is career-safe or salon-safe.
