In the recent past, Sri Lanka has been saturated with a flurry of ‘reality’ and talent shows, oft influenced and inspired by the popularity of shows such as American Idol. However, before all of them, before even American Idol, there was Talent Search.

Initiated in 1995, Talent Search was the brainchild of the Interact Club of Royal College. Initially organized in collaboration with numerous schools’ including St. Bridget’s Convent, Visakha Vidhyalaya, Girls High School and Muslim Ladies College, Talent Search went solo in the year 2005 and remained as such ever since.

Over the span of its 12 year run, Talent Search went from being a mere school based talent show, to a critically acclaimed, award winning contest and must attend fixture on the youth calendar noted for its professionalism.

However, the greatest testament to its excellence was the exclusive contract signed with Pepsi Cola to sponsor the event in 2004 & 2005, thus becoming the first student initiative to be sponsored by a multi-national company.

This June, TS returns with a bang to light up the shores of Sri Lanka following a lengthy hiatus since 2005. Also, continuing the tradition of being a trendsetter, Talent Search 2012 introduces Beat boxing to its lineup of categories including Solo Singing and Bands.

This year 10 performers, from various disciplines take to the stage of the Viharamahadevi Open Air Theatre in an epic battle for dominance in their quest to be the next big thing.

Reshmi Gomez, Chrisni Mendes, Dilina Aarewatte and Raaya Gomez grace the Solo Singing category while bands in the caliber of the Accidentals, Running from Lions, Antharbhawaya and Trip Switch vie for victory in the Bands category.  Diego Samson and Shonel Perera will also take to the stage for a beat boxing showdown of epic proportions.

In addition, the likes of The Castaways and more will give a bit of added flavor to the night. Talent Search 2012 is sponsored by Coca Cola (Beverage Partner), Perera & Sons (Food Partner), Electronic Media Partner –YESfm,  Web Partner, -Xtream Youth.
