The choir of Methodist College is organizing a concert ‘Canto Vivace’ on Thursday 28th & Friday 29th June at the Lionel Wendt theatre at 7.30 p.m.
The choir won the Senior category at the All-island Inter-School competition organized by the Institute of Western Music , & Speech in September 2010.
33 of our choristers participated in the 1st Vietnam International Choir Festival and Competition held in the city of Hoi An, Vietnam. The choir immerged winners of the ‘Youth Choirs of equal voices’ category and was awarded a gold diploma. Additionally the choir was awarded a silver medal for their performance in the ‘Sacred MUSIC’ Category, narrowly missing out on the gold by a mere 0.5 marks.
The choir was then invited to compete for the Hoi An cup along with 6 other choirs. The choir was also honoured by being requested to sing for the closing ceremony of this international competition.
Canto Vivace is performed in order to showcase the talents of the choir to the local audience and they will be joined by Asteria, a premier female choir in Sri Lanka trained by Mahen Peiris, which consists exlusively of past pupils from the school, as well as the MC OGA Choir, “Metho Cantanti” trained by Mrs. Anagi Perera.
The choir is trained and conducted by Sanjeev Jayaratnam and accompanied by Ms. Dharshi Edward.. Neranjan de Silva will be on the organ and Christo Prins on the drums. Choreography will be done by Dilini Perera. Sunday Times are the print media sponsors of the show.
Tickets priced at Rs.1000/=, Rs.750= and Rs.500/= (reserved, downstairs) and Rs.300/= ( balcony, unreserved) are on sale in the school office, during school hours.
