In short, while most eight-year-olds dream of pretty dresses and the latest Barbie doll, Tanasha Raddella dreams of Formula 1, proving girls can thrive in motorsport.
In fact, such has been Tanasha’s impact that Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, has even posted Tanasha on her IG!
In a sport still dominated by men, an eight-year-old is rewriting the rules. Taking part in the Asia Pacific Motorsport Championship, she has already made her mark as one of the youngest girls to enter the racing world — a rare and powerful sight on the track.
“I want to be a Formula 1 driver one day and show the world that girls can race just as fast,” Tanasha says with a fearless smile. Her ambition goes beyond the chequered flag — she dreams of carrying Sri Lanka’s flag onto the international stage.
Her achievements reach far beyond motorsport. At Elizabeth Moir School, Tanasha has been crowned Age Group Athletic Champion three times and named the Most Outstanding Athlete for two consecutive years. She is also the youngest member of the under-13 basketball team and a striker for the junior soccer team. “She’s determined, disciplined, and always ready to push herself,” one of her school coaches noted.
“Tanasha is one of the most gifted young drivers I have ever had the privilege of teaching”, said Coach Avishka Premadasa. “ Her passion, focus and unwavering dedication behind the wheel are truly inspiring. I have no doubt she will leave a lasting legacy in motorsport and inspire generations to come”.
Off the track and field, Tanasha is equally impressive. A skilled drummer, pianist, singer, and dancer, she balances her sporting grit with artistic flair. “She’s always full of energy — whether she’s on stage, on the court, or behind the wheel,” her parents shared proudly.
At just eight years old, Tanasha Raddella is blazing a trail — proving that girls, no matter their age, can speed past barriers and chase dreams once thought impossible.
