views 151Scheduled to be held on the 26th and 27th of July, the students of Methodist College are eager to make their much-anticipated comeback on stage with their own twist on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Directed by Natasha Fernando, the play mainly comprises students from Grade 5 and other primary grades who had many cheerful faces when asked how excited they were to perform at the end of this month.
Inspired by the motion pictures of this classic children’s story alongside the novel, Natasha’s direction and screenplay are unlike anything that has been acted before. With a vivid imagination and a fervent desire to highlight the talents of these little ones, Natasha has optimised this opportunity to present a play that promises to teach a valuable lesson alongside enamouring the hearts of the audience.
In contrast to the usual exhaustion one would see within a theatre cast after weeks of practices, these girls were beyond keen to keep exploring the depths of their characters. When asked about what they found most interesting within their characters, almost everyone declared that it was just ‘super fun to play this character and be funny with it’.
The bonds created during these rehearsals have translated well into chemistry onstage, which dignifies this production more than just a play enacted by primary school students. With all of this being said, the play will be held at the Methodist College Auditorium on the 26th and 27th of July 2024 at 5:00 pm. In the very words of this dear cast, “come watch the show to stand a chance of winning a golden ticket in real life."
