Sri Lanka’s first commercial and industrial security service began in May 1956, with humble patrols along the streets of Pettah, Colombo. Nearly seven decades later, it has evolved into the nation’s foremost private (civilian) security network, employing over 200,000 dedicated officers, many of whom are retired members of the Tri-Forces and Police.
Today, private security officers serve with pride and discipline across both public and private sectors — from ports, airports, and refineries to hospitals, broadcasting corporations, and BOI projects island-wide.
To strengthen and professionalize this vital industry, the Industrial Security Foundation was formed in 1992 under the leadership of private security companies. Recognising its invaluable contribution, the Government of Sri Lanka conferred legal status through Act No. 51 of 1999, officially incorporating it as the Sri Lanka Industrial Security Foundation (ISF).
Since then, the ISF has worked tirelessly to elevate the profession through training, research, knowledge-sharing, and ethical governance. Its objectives include promoting professional management practices, fostering unity among members, setting ethical standards, and enhancing operational efficiency across the sector.
The Foundation’s membership proudly comprises war veterans from the Tri-Forces and Police, who devoted their best years to protecting the nation’s sovereignty. Many now continue their service in the civil security sector, ensuring safety and discipline in workplaces and communities alike.
In appreciation of their enduring contribution, the current Executive Board has embarked on a mission to enhance the welfare and well-being of these officers and their families. To achieve this, the ISF is in the process of establishing a dedicated Welfare Fund, with plans to allocate over 75% of its proceeds directly toward member welfare.
To raise funds for this noble purpose, the ISF proudly presents “Sing Along with Chandimal”, featuring the renowned Chandimal Fernando, together with popular artists Sohan Weerasinghe and Susil Fernando.
Guests can look forward to an unforgettable evening of music, fellowship, and appreciation, complemented by a complimentary dinner. The event also offers BYOB privileges, ensuring a relaxed and enjoyable experience for all attendees.
Tickets, priced at Rs. 6,500, are available through Ticketministry.com and from member security companies island-wide.
As the country’s only statutory body for the civil security profession operating under the Ministry of Defence, the ISF is honoured to have Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), Hon. Secretary of Defence, as the Chief Guest of the evening.
The Industrial Security Foundation warmly invites the public, corporate partners, and well-wishers to be part of this melodious evening with a meaningful purpose.
By attending, you will not only enjoy a wonderful night of music but also contribute to the welfare of Sri Lanka’s unsung heroes — the brave men and women who continue to safeguard our people, property, and peace.
