The Show Must Go On is the debut photography exhibition of freelance writer and photographer Sachini Perera. It will be held on the 8th and 9th of June 2013 at the Lionel Wendt Gallery in Colombo.
Having been a hobby of hers since a mere toddler, Sachini started pursuing photography more seriously when she started taking photos at the various concerts she attended, with a little point and shoot camera. She felt a need to record these concerts for posterity, both in photographs and words, because the musicians who performed at these events were not part of the mainstream music scene in Sri Lanka, thus receiving very little exposure and media coverage. By then, the DSLR boom was yet to happen, resulting in very few photographers at these events.
As these bands grew out of their relative anonymity and gathered a larger following, Sachini also upgraded her gear and expanded her repertoire to include photojournalism, travel photography, both in Sri Lanka and around the world, portraiture and as of late, wedding photography.
But her first love remains photographing live performances, which is the reason she is going back to her roots for her debut photography exhibition. The exhibition will feature
photographs of bands and musicians such as Thriloka, Stigmata, Natasha Nathanielsz, Hania Luthufi and many others in Sri Lanka’s burgeoning music scene. The exhibition will also incorporate multimedia tools to produce an enhanced experience for the viewers.
Sachini hopes her love for music, her love and respect for these musicians as well as the unique energy of their live performances will be aptly communicated by this exhibition.
