The 9th of November will see the second in a series of unique concerts staged by one of Sri Lanka’s top bands Flame, as they and their guests take the stage at the Bishops College Auditorium for a worthy cause.
Themed The Journey Part II, the evening promises to be one of a kind. The band on stage has long been renowned for its very unique musical journey. Starting life as a folk trio presenting songs from the songbooks of Simon and Garfunkel, the Eagles, James Taylor, the Beatles, the BeeGees and the like, they’ve grown into one of Sri Lanka’s most sought after group of performers, renowned both internationally and locally for an eclectic repertoire covering many genres – folk, pop, rock, jazz, contemporary and more.
Whilst the band is seen often at weddings, top corporate events and the like, they don’t stage many concerts…in fact in a history that spans well over 20 years, this is only the second occasion audiences in Colombo will get to savour them for a whole evening, doing what they do best…entertaining everyone…and we do mean everyone. Their set list ensures this will happen.
Rather than seek the acclaim the band in a sense already enjoys…just for the sake of it, Flame has consciously opted to support a worthy cause with their music. In an association that began last year, with the inaugural edition of The Journey, Flame performs in support of the aims and aspirations of the National Stroke Association of Sri Lanka. According to Naushad Rassool the leader of Flame, “There is still a lack of understanding about stroke…what it really is and how preventable and treatable it is. While there are many other worthy causes out there, Flame felt that to lend our strength and support to awareness and prevention, rather than treatment ‘after the fact’ is something we can identify with and that’s where our relationship with the Stroke Association was born”.
With that, the floodgates seemed to open and the other band members were eager to speak to us – “From acoustic guitars, ballads and ‘quiet stuff’ to electric guitars and the driving sounds of rock and roll and rock, Flame will present it all”. “Our guest artistes for the night will be the well renowned Ricky Bahar, Trevin Joseph and two surprise packages…one I can tell you about...Ken Lappen the son of our bassist Joe, who is already a very talented musician in his own right whilst the other is a secret for the moment ”, added Naushad.
The enthusiasm of this band is palpable…as is the quiet assurance that only a band at the top of its game can muster. There are many fans of Flame out there; but even if you’re not, we think this event will be something special entertainment wise, so make your way to the Bishops College Hall on the 9th of November…you won’t be disappointed.
