Authentic Dim Sum Yum Cha experience at Cinnamon Lakeside

Serving a cultural experience in bamboo steam baskets and cups of Chinese tea, Cinnamon Lakeside is now offering the unique ‘Dim Sum Yum Cha’ practice of the traditional Cantonese teahouses, in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The five-star urban resort, in its continued effort to expand the gastronomic offerings to the Colombo epicures, have brought back the ancient practice with a contemporary feel – offering eight varieties of the most popular dim sum at an affordable Rs.2,950 (nett).

The Cantonese tradition of dim sum is said to date back to the 10th century, when the teahouses of China began serving food to go along with their popularoolongtea. Dim sum is so linked with tea that Cantonese speakers refer to eating it as yum cha, or “drinking tea.”

Literally meaning‘touch the heart,’dim sum refers to the dumplings and other small bites that do indeed produce an emotional response.
At Cinnamon Lakeside’s Long Feng restaurant, the variety of dim sum, accompanied by a soup and dessert includes, steamed chicken siewmai, steamed scallops siewmai, steamed green dumplings, steamed fish and nori sheet roll, steamed spicy lamb, Kaifeng xiaolongbao stuffed with minced pork, steamed sweet red bean bun, steamed prawn siewmai, spicy beef minced dumpling, steamed carrot bun, steamed custard bun, steamed lamb and sticky rice siewmai, steamed prawn dumpling, steamed pork spare ribs with black bean and steamed rainbow chicken dumpling.

Following tradition, eight of these varieties will be served along with a hot cup of Chinese tea.

Chef DuanMeigin, the hands and brains behind these delightful bite-sized delicacies at the hotel, noted that the menu has been enhanced by innovative culinary improvements, that both enhances the authentic feel while adding a novel twist to the flavours. While the range offers a variety of fillings such as lamb, chicken, pork and vegetarian options, it is the seafood selection that stands out, Chef Meigin said. “The steamed prawn or scallops dumplings are the perfect seafood indulgence,” she added; “However; our vegetarian option is exceptional too. The delicious vegetarian dumplings taste so good; it doesn’t feel like it’s made out of vegetables.”

To ensure freshness throughout the meal, the bamboo baskets in which these will be presented have been designed with in-built steamers.
