This performance was originally scheduled for the 17th August but has had to be postponed owing to a technical failure that developed in the Organ.
Among the works being performed is an excerpt taken from the title piece of the concert 'Lux aeterna' composed by Morten Lauridsen. This hauntingly beautiful composition is meditative in nature and has one observing a general mood of tranquility interspaced with moments of profound joy.
Excerpts taken from oratorio include 'Then round about the starry throne' (Solomon) and 'He watching over Israel' (Elijah), the latter, dynamically as well as the manner in which the phrasing takes shape, instills in the listener, a deep sense of calmness. Other notable works include C.V Stanford's Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in B flat.
The choir will be conducted by Manilal Weerakoon and Denham Pereira will be at the organ. Featured as soloist will be Laknath Seneviratne, baritone.
