Dance fever is about to hit Colombo as the stage is all set for the 6^th Footwork International Dancesport Championship which is to be held on Sunday, 21st October at Hilton Colombo. 

The competition is to witness the performances of some of both the best professional and amateur dance couples from 11 countries world over namely England, Italy, Russia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Indonesia, China, India and Sri Lanka.

The event is produced by Footwork International, who have been instrumental in putting together a variety of events including a large number of such competitions.

Dancesport interprets dance as a sports activity: the term usually describes competitive ballroom dancing. The revival of ballroom dance championships in Sri Lanka occurred in the mid ‘80s. Ever since, a great interest in the arena has been inculcated resulting in the opening of dance schools around the country.

At the competition, Sri Lanka’s team will comprise of some of the best talent from leading dance schools in the country. Nearly 70 couples are to battle it out for the title. Twenty four events in Standard Ballroom and the Latin American version will be featured for the competition held in two segments, heats and finals, on the said day.

The professional event is to be the highlight of the Championship. US$ 5000 will be on offer for the winners of the professional events.

 

Dancesport championships by Footwork International revolves around the sole motive of promoting and fostering this branch of performing arts, while enabling the participants to meet international standards.

Having hosted a number of successful international competitions, this year’s edition of Dancesport 2012 is to be of no exception and the organizers are making every effort to put up a show that will be well enjoyed and long remembered by both the competitors and audience.

The 6th Footwork International Dancesport Championship 2012 Sri Lanka is an event wholly approved by the Sri Lanka World dance Council & Asia Dance Council. Hilton Colombo is the Official Host Hotel for the Championship.
