An Evening of Classical Music

Four young musicians will collaborate to give classical music lovers a night to remember performing works ranging from Baroque to Post- Modern Eras.

The soloists for the evening will be Emma Johnson (Cello), Daniel Johnpillai (Piano), Natasha Senanayake (Flute and Piano) and Dhanushi Wijeyakulasuriya (Soprano).

The recital is the brainchild of composer and musician Natasha Senanayake. Natasha holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Composition from the Petrie School of Music, Converse College, South Carolina, USA. Her works have been premiered in Colombo by the Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka (SOSL) and most recently at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, London. Natasha will perform her own composition for Flute and Voice “In the Village”.

 

 

Emma Johnson who was born in Virginia, USA, will perform in Colombo for the first time. Emma followed her first two years of undergraduate study in Cello Performance at the Petrie School of Music, Converse College in South Carolina and is currently continuing her degree at George Mason University, Virginia. Emma will perform a movement from Dvorak’s Cello Concerto in B minor along with other works for Cello.

 

 

Born in New Zealand, Daniel Johnpillai is an accomplished pianist, arranger and improviser. He holds a master’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Imperial College London and is at present a Senior Analyst at Nomura International PLC, London. Daniel will perform Beethoven’s Piano Sonata no. 30 in E Major. Natasha, Daniel and Emma will also collaborate to perform a trio for Flute, Piano and Cello by Carl Maria von Webber.

 

 

Dhanushi Wijeyakulasuriya is a 3rd Year undergraduate reading for her degree in Industrial Statistics at the University of Colombo. She is a licentiate (LTCL) of the Trinity College of Music, London and made her debut with the SOSL in 2007. Dhanushi will perform the world premiere of Anushka Senanayake’s  “Three Poem Settings for Voice and Piano” and the Sri Lankan premieres of Natasha Senanayake’s “ Everyone Sang” and “In the Village”.

The recital will be on May 23rd 2012 at the Russian Centre Auditorium. ENTRANCE IS BY INVITATION ONLY.
