The students of the Asian International School are all set to wow audiences with their latest stage performance “The Best of Broadway”, a musical extravaganza that will cover some of the biggest hits of Broadway theatre.  Directed by the multi-faceted dramatist Vinodh Senadeera, with musical direction provided by Natalie Gooneratne, the performance will feature a combination of song and dance from classic Broadway favourites such as “Annie”, “Phantom of the Opera”, “Blood Brothers”, “The Sound of Music”, “The Wizard of Oz”, “Oliver Twist” along with more modern hits like Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’ and “Mamma Mia”. 

 

 

Performed by around ninety students, aged between twelve and fifteen years and choreographed by senior student, Tara Weerasinghe; the show has proved to be both challenging and a pleasure for them. Speaking about the students, Vinodh said, “The children started rehearsing last November and we have been rehearsing continuously since then. It’s definitely been a challenge for some of the kids who are not used to doing musicals. It’s a whole new genre for them, but they are certainly enjoying it.” 

 

The show is organized by the Prefect’s Guild of Asian International School and part of the proceeds from the show will be donated to the Maharagama Cancer Hospital.

“The Best of Broadway” will be staged on 10, 11 and 12 February (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) at the Lionel Wendt. Tickets can be purchased from Asian International School and Lionel Wendlt.
