On board today’s edition of Artist’s Angle is another featured artist at “Passion 2013”, Cinnamon Gardens’ Rotaract Club’s flagship event. Georgiana Chitac is a --- based mixed media artist, and is delighted to be part of the art exhibition that promotes budding talent. I find her to have an interesting perspective on art and life – here’s why.

What do you like best about working with mixed media?

The endless possibilities that you have to express what your mind can imagine.

Tell us about yourself and when you first discovered and explored the love for Mixed Media in you?

I started drawing and painting when I was 10, and shortly after I discovered that I can go beyond the traditional media. I liked experimenting a lot and pushing the limits, but when you draw the line, art is art, no matter what media you choose to use.

How has exploring your creativity enriched your life?

It didn’t enrich my life, it is my life! I can’t imagine now living without and I can’t see other way of exploring my creativity but through art.

What is the best and not-so-much-the-best part about being a mixed media artist, or a professional artist as a whole?

The upside is freedom, the downside ....I don’t know, it can be money or the lack of it, but this thing tends to correct itself over time if you follow your passion.

What are you most proud of? How do you measure your growth thus far?

To be proud of what you do requires you to have a very well balanced attitude towards your life and unfortunately I don’t have one. Indeed I feel that I evolved these past years: had a solo exhibition, published five books, sold many of my fine art illustrations; but there is still a long way to go until I will be happy, I only started illustrating four years ago. Finding a path to follow, no matter how bumpy it is, it’s most important for me right now.

What are your thoughts on showcasing your work at Passion in Sri Lanka? Tell us something about the collection you hope to display this December?

I like the idea that my work travelled so far from where I am and I like the name of the exhibition - “passion”, it underlines very well what art should be about.

In December I will showcase a selection of seven giclee prints of fine art illustrations created between 2009 and 2012. 2013 was an year dedicated entirely to children’s books.

Meet Georgiana and see her work at ‘Passion 2013’ presented by the Rotaract Club of Cinnamon Gardens. ‘Passion’ is an annual art exhibition which will be held on the 14th and 15th of December. With the objective of promoting art among the youth, ‘Passion’ is a platform to showcase the works of both emerging and established artists.
