What - 'Work In Progress'
Where - The Design Collective
When - 10. 06. 17
Who - Shahili Gomes and Binu Wickramasinghe

This week I visited The Design Collective where they are hosting 'Work In Progress', an introduction to an unfinished new space, a developing new idea and a hope for a new experience. You can go check it out, as the artist's work will be on display and for sale till the 25th of this month.

This space features photography, paintings, living sculptures and mixed media work by SAND, Tincept and You're My Favourite. The guys who have made the WTF take for 'Life': 'Work In Progress' is curated by Dima Sham, Jonathan Wijayaratne, Ryan Wijayaratne, Tamara Jayasundera  and Shanea Mendis.

Speaking to Shahili Gomes about this initiative she says "This is going to evolve into a cool concept store. The event was only an intro to the artist and empty space."

The Design Collective (TDC) was founded by two school friends, Binu Wickramasinghe and Shahili Gomes, as a place to share their love for fashion, design, art and travel. Shahili found inspiration for the TDC concept store whilst shopping in New York and London. Childhood friend Binu, with her background working in fashion in Delhi and London, was the perfect partner to bring the project to life in their home country of Sri Lanka.

TDC is aimed at promoting emerging designers from Sri Lanka and elsewhere in South East Asia by providing a unique retail space in which to showcase their designs. TDC encourages group collaboration and female leadership in fashion.

The retail space boasts an interactive shared work area, in which designers and customers engage and exchange ideas. TDC is a place not just to buy and sell, but to learn and create.

Danu Innasithamby

Danu Innasithamby is proof that one person can survive on coffee, curiosity, and an unhealthy number of WhatsApp messages. A television host, actor, producer, writer, and professional chatterbox, he’s spent years turning conversations into stories and stories into memorable television. Born in Jaffna and proudly calling Sri Lanka home, Danu has built a career around asking the questions everyone else is thinking—but with a smile that usually gets him out of trouble. Whether he’s interviewing celebrities, hosting major events, judging competitions, or chasing the next great story, there’s never really a dull moment. When he’s not on screen, he’s busy supporting local talent, championing meaningful causes through Sri Lankan Smile, or convincing himself that “just one more project” is a perfectly reasonable life choice. Known for his humour, colourful suits, quick wit, and the ability to make almost anyone laugh, Danu believes life is best lived with good conversations, great food, and a healthy dose of sarcasm. If you spot him, don’t be surprised if you’re suddenly part of an interview… or at least a really entertaining conversation.
