What - Fairway Galle Literary Festival 2017
Where - Galle
When - 11th to 15th Jan 2017

This week we took a ride to Galle for the FGLF, a great concept which has grown more popular every year. The Fairway Galle Literary Festival is set in the UNESCO World Heritage site Galle Fort, and is both an internationally reputed and acclaimed literary festival. And it sure keeps our flag flying high!

The 2017 MAS Galle Children’s Programme, was a super cool, 2-day mini lit fest scheduled on Saturday and Sunday at the Thomas Gall School, which engaged the younger festival-goers in a fun series of activities and workshops, which also kept the big ones happy.

A project I was involved in was the innovative tea experience by Lipton Sri Lanka in partnership with Tea Talks. The Lipton Tea Room sampled food and tea which was inspired by your moods. It’s not always about books, sometimes it’s also about good food!

Jayanthi Kuru-Utumpala at FGLF 2017 spoke about her historical achievement for Sri Lanka, and in the process her partner on this journey Johann who was short of the mark by about 300m said he was going to give summiting the Everest another go.

The Unilever Food Lounge at Law Courts Square was a big hit, and was a quick place to grab a bite. Some of the dishes included Maldivefish Vadei with Mint Chutney, Isso Vadei, Devilled Chicken Skewers, Sausage Skewers and Mini Chicken Burgers. These are just a few things which were there, and to add to it Saturday also brought out the Good Market with all big and small brands making FGLF one buzzing place.

The Lit Café was definitely a hit - the place was full of comfy cushion and LIVE music by Lite87 and a place to meet your favourite authors.

Danu Innasithamby

Danu Innasithamby is proof that one person can survive on coffee, curiosity, and an unhealthy number of WhatsApp messages. A television host, actor, producer, writer, and professional chatterbox, he’s spent years turning conversations into stories and stories into memorable television. Born in Jaffna and proudly calling Sri Lanka home, Danu has built a career around asking the questions everyone else is thinking—but with a smile that usually gets him out of trouble. Whether he’s interviewing celebrities, hosting major events, judging competitions, or chasing the next great story, there’s never really a dull moment. When he’s not on screen, he’s busy supporting local talent, championing meaningful causes through Sri Lankan Smile, or convincing himself that “just one more project” is a perfectly reasonable life choice. Known for his humour, colourful suits, quick wit, and the ability to make almost anyone laugh, Danu believes life is best lived with good conversations, great food, and a healthy dose of sarcasm. If you spot him, don’t be surprised if you’re suddenly part of an interview… or at least a really entertaining conversation.
