Brunch Time On WTF

What - ‘Let’s Brunch’
Where - 53, Haig Road, Colombo 4
Who - Thisakya Senanayake
When - Saturday and Sunday from 10:30AM to 2PM

Today on WTF, we went off to have some brunch. It’s a great concept, because who wants to wake up early on a weekend? When you try and sleep in as much as you can and when you are up you are hungry.

Speaking to Thisakya she says

It is the redemption from the toils of the weekdays – where a late breakfast meets an early lunch designed to revive the soul. That is what one can expects when you sit at the delightfully informal pavilion facing the Indian Ocean where ‘Let’s Brunch’ beckons you every weekend!

A creative menu to be chosen a la carte helps one with the budget as well as caters to one's aversion to gargantuan buffets –rather, the individually prepared fresh products served to you. The selection covers a considerable spectrum ranging from the Full English Breakfast – a belly buster if you ever saw one - to more delicate fare such as creative combos presented on crisp toast. One can choose from classics such as Eggs Benedict to the good old-fashioned kiribath with accompaniments.

When I visited them I was lost for choice. The food was too good and the portions are coming from a big heart.

This is what I tried:

The Full English - Two pork sausages, a steaklet, bacon, two sunny side up eggs, baked beans, grilled mushrooms and toast. Priced at Rs. 990.

Eggs Benedict with Spicy Crab - Two poached eggs on a bed of spicy crab on toast topped with hollandaise sauce and accompanied with a hash brown, grilled tomatoes and rocket leaves. Priced at Rs. 990.

Eggs Benedict with Bacon - Two poached eggs on a bed of crispy bacon on toast topped with hollandaise sauce and accompanied with a hash brown, grilled tomatoe and rocket leaves. Priced at Rs. 890.

We also had Eggs Benedict with Smoked Salmon (Rs. 1045) and a vegetarian option with spinach (Rs. 695).

Then we had two dishes off their toast bar:

Cream cheese, cucumber and smoked salmon on toast at Rs.995

Slices of mango, rocket leaves and feta cheese on top of toast at Rs.695

Well, I was a bit too stuffed to take it any further. Mocktails, cocktails, creative smoothies and fresh juices are also available, all to be enjoyed while the sea breeze blows gently. It’s a perfect family place to be at, and to keep you busy and creative the table mats are made of adult colouring books which kept me happy and a concept that’s unique and interesting, so I will see you this weekend at Let's Brunch.

Danu Innasithamby is proof that one person can survive on coffee, curiosity, and an unhealthy number of WhatsApp messages. A television host, actor, producer, writer, and professional chatterbox, he’s spent years turning conversations into stories and stories into memorable television. Born in Jaffna and proudly calling Sri Lanka home, Danu has built a career around asking the questions everyone else is thinking—but with a smile that usually gets him out of trouble. Whether he’s interviewing celebrities, hosting major events, judging competitions, or chasing the next great story, there’s never really a dull moment. When he’s not on screen, he’s busy supporting local talent, championing meaningful causes through Sri Lankan Smile, or convincing himself that “just one more project” is a perfectly reasonable life choice. Known for his humour, colourful suits, quick wit, and the ability to make almost anyone laugh, Danu believes life is best lived with good conversations, great food, and a healthy dose of sarcasm. If you spot him, don’t be surprised if you’re suddenly part of an interview… or at least a really entertaining conversation.
