Today I feature young talent! I got to see his work on social media and fell in love with it immediately, so had to get in touch with him and get his work out to see for myself. Ranga who is now working in the fashion industry, has a unique flavour to his work, and he is a designer who designs costumes for his clients, and today we feature his collection of chic street wear, which was a fun shoot to be a part of.
What makes your designs unique?
I use my prints to enhance the uniqueness of my designs. They are hand illustrations which are developed as graphics at the end.
How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style is a blend of fashion and art.
What international brands have inspired you?
Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Versace and few more designer wear brands.
How do you work on the designs you created?
It depends, with different inspirations and concepts but I'm always focused on making wearable and sellable products.
What are your thoughts on the local market, and what is the competition like for original creations?
The Sri Lankan fashion industry has already pitched the high end of quality work and design values. It would be of better potential to compete with the international industry in the future if we will be able to secure the originality of our work.
What, according to you, is a favourite part of being a fashion designer?
It's a huge pleasure to work on something that I'm so in love with and to see someone wearing something I created.
Who do you envision wearing your work? Do you think about this when you work on your designs?
Obviously, in my work, I'm trying to keep the high end of tailoring and design qualities. So, I would love to see them being worn by people who value and admire fashion in their lifestyles. Possibly fashion icons and celebrities, someday.
What skills, according to you, are necessary for a successful fashion designer?
Originality of someone's knowledge in both designing and technical fields will make a good fashion designer.
Tell me about your interest in art, and what your style is like?
I'm a big fan of many art cultures. I doodle and draw as a hobby. My style depends on concepts. I'm trying on different techniques for different outcomes.
Tell me about the collection you have featured today, and what has been your inspiration for it?
These are few looks from my graduation collection. That was a men's casual wear collection inspired by a set of hand illustrations. The theme of this collection was 'Mystical Trance'.

What was it like to shoot this street chic look?
Challenging and very interesting, and I always love to do new shoots like this, and most importantly it's a new concept.
What was your favourite pick?
Personally, I have always loved the opposite colour contrast. The black and white photograph is my favourite.
