Buzz with Danu: Sav Perera

  • 24 July 2024

Today I speak to Sri Lankan born Savindri Perera or Sav as she is best known who has made many dishes such as the black pork curry world famous at the MasterChef kitchen. All I can say is Sav is a very special girl. I did a show for Hi TV with her, and her infectious personality and her humble take to life is absolutely remarkable. I had a small chat with her. Watch what she has to say on #DanuonFire

1. WHAT MADE YOU TAKE ON MASTER CHEF? I wanted to take on a new challenge and change the trajectory of my life. It was also a way to deal with the grief of losing my mother.

2. ANY SECRETS YOU CAN SHARE WITH US ABOUT THE SHOW, WHICH WILL NOT PUT YOU IN TROUBLE? There’s a lot more feedback that we get that doesn’t make the edit - the judges really want us to grow and get better.

3. DID YOU EVER THINK THE SRI LANKAN FOOD YOU SERVE WILL WIN SO MANY HEARTS ON THE SHOW? It is honestly genuinely a surprise and I’m very humbled by the response I’ve received.

4. LIFE AT HOME? At home in Adelaide it’s just me and my cat Bandit, and I also have my older sister based in Adelaide.

5. DO YOU COOK AT HOME? I do but I cook very simple things - I hardly cook Sri Lankan food actually. 6. YOUR FAVOURITE DISH YOU EAT? The prawn roll from Tasty.

7.WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU! Hopefully some exciting projects with the brands and hospitality names that are local to Sri Lanka.

8. AN EX. MASTERCHEF SRI LANKAN CONTESTANT YOU WANT TO COLAB WITH? Definitely Minoli de Silva - she’s a powerhouse.

9.WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE JUDGE? It’s hard to pick one — If I had to pick, Poh

10.WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO COOK FOR? My mother.

Danu Innasithamby

Danu Innasithamby is proof that one person can survive on coffee, curiosity, and an unhealthy number of WhatsApp messages. A television host, actor, producer, writer, and professional chatterbox, he’s spent years turning conversations into stories and stories into memorable television. Born in Jaffna and proudly calling Sri Lanka home, Danu has built a career around asking the questions everyone else is thinking—but with a smile that usually gets him out of trouble. Whether he’s interviewing celebrities, hosting major events, judging competitions, or chasing the next great story, there’s never really a dull moment. When he’s not on screen, he’s busy supporting local talent, championing meaningful causes through Sri Lankan Smile, or convincing himself that “just one more project” is a perfectly reasonable life choice. Known for his humour, colourful suits, quick wit, and the ability to make almost anyone laugh, Danu believes life is best lived with good conversations, great food, and a healthy dose of sarcasm. If you spot him, don’t be surprised if you’re suddenly part of an interview… or at least a really entertaining conversation.
