LIFT New Designer Graduate Fashion Show 2012

The Lanka Institute of Fashion Design recently held their New Designers Graduate Fashion Show 2012 at the Galadari Hotel – Grand Ballroom.

The event was held to introduce young creative fashion designers to the industry by showcasing their graduate collections. 50 graduate designers took part in the event and 22 selected collections, based on various themes were showcased.

The fashion show was judged by an internationally acclaimed panel of judges, compromising of

Mr. Hmant Trevedi – a leading Indian designer who has dressed and trained many Miss India’s including Aishwarya Rai, Lara Dutta and Priyanka Chopra.

Ms. Emmeline Child – a senior lecturer for fashion marketing at the University of Northampton.

Yashoda Wimaladharma – a leading Sri Lankan actress.

The most talented designers among the graduates were given special awards for their creativity at the award ceremony.

The opening collection, based on the theme ‘Asian Tropic Style’ was presented by a group of diploma graduates, compromising of Sankapalee Wicramasinghe, Ishani Weunagoda, Swarnamali Ratnayake, Neroli Daniel, Venuka Wicramaarachchi and Natasha Fernando.

The advanced diploma graduate collections were designed by Amarsha De Silva, Suzette Schokman, Akhila Karunaratne, Thamali Jayaweera, Sherhara Weerakoon, Aaliya Mohomed, Sulochana Pinto, Sandalini Perera, Shamara Alles, Nayomi Perera, Gavithri Samarathunga, Duminda Thalagala, Chathurika Illeperuma, Shanaz Samseer, Niwarthana Edisisinghe and Shehara Perera. 

The finale collection was presented by LIFT Designer Wear, a collection of classic designs done by the designers working for the LDW boutique. All designs were made out of pure silk, raw silk, silk chiffons and glass velvet fabrics. LIFT Designer Wear is a platform for young designers who graduate from LIFT to gain experience by internship or build their careers as designers by working for the LDW brand or to promote their own labels and the fashion industry.
