Shanudrie Priyasad

Young, multi-talented Shanudrie Priyasad is no stranger to the world of glamour and entertainment.

She started acting in her father Dinesh Priyasad’s movie ‘Onna Babo’ as a three and a half year old little child and later went on to prove her prowess in movies like Rosa Kele, Suwanda Danuna Jeewithe, Angara Dangara and others including tele dramas like Kula Kumariya, Tikiri Hapannu, Upuli and Yaya Hathara which is being telecast on Swarnavahini now.

She will also be seen in the upcoming movie ‘Oluwa Japan Kanda German’ directed by her father. She was in the news again last week when she received the 2012 State Television Award for the best child actress for her role in Sandagiri  Pawwa.

You are the youngest in a family involved in arts. How does it feel?

Well, yes my father is a popular director who made award-winning films. My elder sisters Sheshadri and Dinakshi are well known actresses. They help me a lot in shaping up my acting talents. I want to become a good actress by learning the art.

How do you balance your school work with these commitments?

My sisters help me in my studies and so do my classmates. I will be sitting for my GCE OL exam this year. So I have decided to stay away from acting this year and devote more time for studies.

How many awards have you received so far?

I won an OCIC award for Angara Dangara; then I got a merit award at the Sumathi Awards ceremony for my role in the poya tele drama ‘Kadadahi Mal’. I became the best child actress at this year’s State Television Award.

Your hobbies?

I love singing and dancing. A song called ‘Mal Sihinaya’ which I sang with Yashan Ayya is now popular among television audiences.

My ambition is to study well and join a bank some day. I am grateful to my parents, my sisters, director Saman Kumara Liyanage, my school principal and teachers, my friends and all who have helped me even in a small way.
