Day 4 of Fairway Galle Literary Festival 2018
Carlos Andrés Gómez is an award-winning poet, actor, speaker and author of ‘Man Up: Reimagining Modern Manhood’. He has performed at over 200 colleges and universities and toured across North America, Europe, the Caribbean, and Africa.
He has also headlined festivals all over the world, including Indonesia, South Africa, Australia, Cambodia, Ireland, Spain, Canada, the U.K., and as Guest of Honor at the Berlin International Literature Festival in Germany.

Carlos has been nominated twice for the Pushcart Prize and named Artist of the Year at the 2009 Promoting Outstanding Writers Awards and he is a two-time International Poetry Slam Champion.
After his sold-out session at Mayhem Past Midnight the night before, Carlos still bought in more crowd to his session. Breaking the 4th wall completely, Carlos interacted actively with the audience asking them questions and memories.

He started his session off with a poem about his 102-year-old grandmother and spoke about traditions and asked the audience about their grandmothers as well. He proceeded to wax poetry about going out, about intimacy, about driving over the speed limit, about the child and about life and the current issues one is faced with.
Carlos’s poetry, though appearing light-hearted and funny always tended to carry heavy undertones of a deep-lying issue like homophobia, racism and many more.
“I don’t tattoo my body because my veins are already full of ink,”
he says as he performs his poetry piece ‘Little Son’.
After the session, when asked how he thought it all went he tells us that he is ‘really happy’.
“The session went great! I got such a responsive crowd and that was amazing!”
