It's time to sweat it out with a comedy once again! I have had the pleasure of working with Vinodh and it's always an easy and fun experience which guarantees a good finish on stage. As a lover of comedy, he has teamed up with the talented to Delon to give life to The Taming of The Shrew which will be on boards in July. 

And the best part is the directors and the production team of CTC plans on transforming significant areas of the venue to resemble the Globe Theatre in London, in true Shakespearean style, to supplement the hilarious comedy with visual satisfaction.

What made you choose a Shakespearean play? 

The combined theatre is all about innovativeness. In keeping with comedy, we thought that this year we would love to stage a play by the Bard - and what better play than The Taming of The Shrew. It has all the elements of comedy. 

What's going to be the main feature of this play? 

Well, we are playing it in period form and style. And yes, some editing has gone into the play, but one is guaranteed a typical Shakespearean theatre experience. Also the production is directed by two directors - Delon Weerasinghe and Vinodh Senadeera. 

How are the rehearsals going? 

Rehearsals are fun but let's admit it, it's daunting. It's not easy to play Shakespeare, especially comedy. But the cast is working hard, and the comradeship helps to build a good rapport with each other. 

What would you say is the biggest challenge in performing a Shakespeare play? 

Well, it's two challenges, the first of which is the characterization and portrayals of the roles, and the second being the language and the delivery, which is vital in Shakespeare plays. 

Tell me about the other actors on stage. 

The cast is young and energetic, which is essential in plays like these. All the performers have been on stage at some point. Rahantha Abeykoon plays Petruchio, Tazmin Anthoniz plays Katherina, Lihan Mendis plays Baptista, Danu Innasithamby plays Grumio, Asanka Ranasinghe plays Gremio, and the other actors and actresses include Biman Wimalaratne, Kovindu, Mevan, Adam, Inaya, Niran, Shahen, Ashwin. 

Why did you pick The Taming of The Shrew? 

Well, mainly because of its comic element, and the potential it gives to actors to interpret roles. The main idea being for its comic appeal. There are certain elements in the play which are very current and prevalent, but the play is not preaching messages, and we are staging this for the comedy and enjoyment factor. 

When will this be staged? 

On the 21st, 22nd and 23rd of July, 2017 at 7:30PM.
