Buzz with Danu - COLD Theatre 7

  • 01 November 2023

Today I speak to the team at COLD Theatre 7 about the upcoming production where they have 100 cast members on stage and 6 plays in one show, all to celebrate 10 years of COLD Theatre 7.

1. How did this idea come about?

We wanted to celebrate theatre, and we wanted to celebrate COLD Theatre 7. We wanted to do it with the people who were with us from the start, and the people who had joined us along the journey. We wanted to mark the Decade with everyone and as many people as possible. That's how the idea came to be.

2. How many are on stage, you have 7 plays all in one show?

There will be about 100 people on stage with cast and crew. There will be 6 plays in one show.

3. How did you pick the best parts to show?

I always like a cliffhanger, that's how my productions have been. So here too, we wanted to leave a thought with the audience. There is an ending to get the people thinking.

4. It’s not easy to put a show up, especially as we face a big issue with the economy. How are you doing it?

It definitely is not easy putting up a show of this nature. Finances are always challenging. We had a few generous sponsors and we are depending on the ticket sales, and that's why we encourage people to come and watch.

5. Cold Theater 7 is celebrating 10 years, tell me about the journey.

It was an interesting journey. We had a great time putting together the various shows. We had comedies, murder mysteries, musicals and we also had workshops for kids to encourage them to continue to act. But all in all, we were lucky that we are here.

7. A little About the cast?

There are a lot of people reprising the roles coming to be part of this celebration. There are senior actors and some debutants as well. We are very glad that all of them are part of this journey.

8. What’s next after 10 years for CT7? What can we expect next year?

I'll be bringing back the show I started with to the Wendt. I feel it should be staged at the Wendt and we will be doing that mid-next year.

9. Tickets and show date?

Tickets start at 1000 for the balcony and go up to 5000.
3rd and 4th of November -
3rd Friday 7.30 pm.
4th Saturday 6.30 pm
At the Lionel Wendt

Danu Innasithamby is proof that one person can survive on coffee, curiosity, and an unhealthy number of WhatsApp messages. A television host, actor, producer, writer, and professional chatterbox, he’s spent years turning conversations into stories and stories into memorable television. Born in Jaffna and proudly calling Sri Lanka home, Danu has built a career around asking the questions everyone else is thinking—but with a smile that usually gets him out of trouble. Whether he’s interviewing celebrities, hosting major events, judging competitions, or chasing the next great story, there’s never really a dull moment. When he’s not on screen, he’s busy supporting local talent, championing meaningful causes through Sri Lankan Smile, or convincing himself that “just one more project” is a perfectly reasonable life choice. Known for his humour, colourful suits, quick wit, and the ability to make almost anyone laugh, Danu believes life is best lived with good conversations, great food, and a healthy dose of sarcasm. If you spot him, don’t be surprised if you’re suddenly part of an interview… or at least a really entertaining conversation.
