Worst nightmare...

Date: 18th April

Flight: Mumbai

Take off and landing, the most critical phases of a flight! Most aircraft accidents and major incidents have happened during this time period. That is why at decent, air-hostess's secure the cabins, ask passengers to switch off their mobile phones, wear the seat belt, and stay put in the seat -Only for the sake of personal safety. One good thing about being an airhostess is that work doesn’t follow us home (thank god for that, the last thing I would want is a call bell ringing by my bed side!). However certain things that happen on board do impact our lives.

I have had colleagues who never returned back to work or had continuous nightmares after a serious injury or a death onboard. Getting haunted by certain tainted situations we face is a normal reaction of a normal human being. Out of the worst things that happen on board, one of my colleagues today shared the nightmare that haunts her every day. Her grave memories were brought back to life as it was the same destination we were flying to.

As busy as it gets on any flight, call bells were popping up every second. There was one particular passenger despite having 3 or 4 different hot meals kept on pressing the call bell asking for more. He went on complaining that he wasn't satisfied with the meal, and made crew heat up their crew meals for him ( yes crew do give away their crew meal quite often to the greedy ). Sometimes it comes to a point to say "No" as we are at 40,000 ft with limited supplies and having had to, thankfully they reached decent without any drama. The cabin was secured swiftly and the crew took their jump seats. Aircraft was smoothly climbing down, and the captain made the final P.A for the cabin crew to prepare for landing alerting everyone that it is less than a couple of minutes left for touchdown.

The next thing she notices is the passenger running towards her and pulled the lavatory door open. "Sir the captain already made the P.A. Please sit down, two minutes and we are on ground!" He turned around and walked back for her relief yet a sudden filthy foul smell from the cabin made her turn around. Just a minute left to land there he was squatted down, defecating in the middle of the isle. What she saw filled her with disgust making her insides twirl; she barfed continuously until they touched down. Catching the foul smell the adjacent crew members started throwing up as well.

Meanwhile the passenger who took a dump while landing right in between the isle next to so many other people, just walked back to his seat as if nothing just happened. The worst of all as the doors opened people just skipped over the faeces as if it is a normal routine of their everyday life.  What puzzled everyone was that he had all the time on earth to use the bathroom before hand or to use the toilet anyway as he pulled it open, even so he simply decided to take a dump out in the open, while landing. Could he not hold it for just 2 more minutes? Or did he just do it out of spite?
