Flight: London
Date: 11th June
Summer time is a busy time for the airlines. Even if it is not too busy they make sure to throw out interesting offers to the passengers. Suddenly a 50% off the ticket prices or extra baggage allowances make it a more viable time for some travelers. The airhostess’s on the other hand, tend to get jam packed rosters with minimum rest. East and west, day and night, as the flights take off and lands, our body clock turns upside down. Sometimes despite the efforts to plan proper rest, it is never enough.
One air hostess, who had a hectic work schedule, was on our flight today. On top of everything she was pulled out off of an airport standby. Airport standby is where some crew are kept ready from a certain time period, usually about 4 hours ready to go, in case of a sudden crew shortage. However she was happy as she had some family in London. She was tired but excited to be on the flight at the same time. During the welcome service, as she was offering champagne in the premium cabin, she accidently dropped the whole tray on the aisle (Luckily no passenger was involved).

While giving a helping hand in economy cabin she opened a tilted beer can, spraying beer all over a customer who was a dedicated teetotaler (this wasn’t very nice, as he wanted her fired immediately). However she was a good crew member, though she was tired as a battered bat, she tried her best to share the work load.
After the flight she was hurrying off to her friend’s work place to borrow her car. Having studied in England and having the international driving license she was quite confident in driving to surprise her brother and her newborn nephew. After a couple of hours as we were relaxing outside the hotel, enjoying the summer breeze, we could see her still in her uniform hurrying down to the hotel. “Hey is everything all right?” I waved at her. She came down with a disappointed face, and said “You wouldn’t believe what happened to me! I stopped for the red light and the next thing I know, a policeman knocked on my window! I fell asleep in the middle of the road! I have been blocking up the traffic for over half an hour! I guess I was too tired.”
Giving her a much needed hug, we took her back to her room, but bugged her all the way back. After all, it took her a tray of broken champagne glasses, an angry passenger drenched in beer, and creating a traffic jam, to realize that she is too tired.
Love, Dany
