Date: 25th April
Flight: Hong Kong
Everywhere an air hostess goes in uniform the public eye follows them. They are in fact the face of an airline, and have to be conscious of their behavior and attitudes when in public. Many a time forget this, they sort of throw up an invisibility cloak (of course imaginary ones) and completely forget that people are watching. Sometimes this really does help, especially when that annoying shoe heel slips while running at an airport. Yet it doesn’t rally round always- particularly if there’s a group of Chinese tourists with their cameras ready to click.
Throughout the whole journey there was an airhostess who completely kept herself in invisibility mode despite many alarming incidents. She would literally sing to herself, dance or even be in a full on conversation with herself without giving any notice to her fellow crew members. As the flight was delayed over 5 hours, the crew was given access to an airport lounge, which was dedicated to the premium customers. Airport lounges for premium passengers are always fancy. Flat screen T.V’s were switched on to BBC or Bloomburg. The business center computers were all ready occupied with the busy businessmen, and a comfortable spa area was to be seen with a few people taking head and foot massages. Of course the crew wasn’t allowed to access any of that except for the exquisite buffet.
Everybody settled down in a more private area, avoiding the eyes of the passengers just to relax after such a long delay. The purser started doing the pre-flight briefing quietly, highlighting the importance of behaving at the lounge buffet. “Oh c’mon we are all adults” one cheeky crew retorted, “We all know our table manners don’t we?” A sudden familiar high pitched singing made everyone scan the lounge exasperatedly. There she was singing to herself, and doing the Macarena dance (evidently she was excited to see the food).
It took more than a few minutes for us to justify what she was doing dancing at the airport lounge in her uniform. Some awestruck passengers just kept on staring at her while the purser sigh “Adults!” and dragged her to a corner to ask her what that was about. She was clearly shocked herself that her invisibility cloak didn’t work its magic this time and retorted “What? Did I? Are you sure that you saw me doing the Macarena or you just wish?” and hurried back for a bigger serving leaving the purser hanging.
Love, Dany
