Flight: Johannesburg
Date: 18th July
The world of fashion is at its peak now. Men and women equally are trying to keep up with the latest trends of the world. Some may want to copy the latest cat walk fashions they watched on fashion tv. For some it is about creating their own signature. For some it is about following their idols, or people they admire the most, even if that means wearing a bubble wrap and walking on the street like Lady Gaga.
Many airlines impose dress codes, especially in premium cabins. However except for a staff traveller, it is pretty rare to see them offloading a young lady wearing an inch of a short to the aircraft (who will later ask for 5 blankets to keep herself warm). I believe that if you call your self a traveller it is important to pay attention to where you are traveling to despite which trend is ON right now. After all travelling is also about respecting other cultures and traditions.
While doing the service today a colleague faced an awkward situation. A young man had his trousers pulled down from the back, enough for his chubby buttocks to pop out, showing off his Calvin kleins proudly. It was not a big deal until a conservative elderly couple got a bit offended. He was seated right opposite them and when ever he tried reaching his hat rack he was clearly showing his bum to this poor old lady.

The old couple complained "Can you ask that guy to pull his pants up?" as my colleague who was just passing by. Though the underpants shower was rather big made, and stood their towering him, he said in the most polite way he could " sir, can you please pull your pants up?" The passengers face turned into many colours of anger. He began screaming at the crew " what's your problem?" Sir to be honest I don't have any problem, this lovely lady is getting an undelightful image of your buttocks every time you turn around, and you are causing discomfort to them. So they have asked me to ask you to be kind and pull your pants up!" Eventually it escalated into being a racial offence where he accused the old couple of being uptight whites discriminating against him.
During the heated discussion of what is right and wrong, another old lady possibly in her 80's passed by, walking slowly depending on her walking stick. "SMACK" and a loud cry made everyone alert.
In a squeaky annoyed voice the old lady said "How many times have I told you to pull your pants up! Your mother should have listened to me and spanked you more often! Stop crying and take me to the loo!" Everybody stood their stunned for a while. The old lady turned out to be the fashionistas grandma and thankfully she disciplined him well for the rest of the flight.
