Dating or scoring high with an airhostess is some men’s fantasy. Many movies have been made contributing to this stereotypical nymph like image of an airhostess being easy, playful, and ready for action at any altitude. Some men weirdly do expect their airhostess to ask the infamous question “Would you like some tea, coffee, or ME?”

The range of men who try to hit on that airhostess vary from college graduates, backpackers, married, just passed 40’s and rich aristocrats.  However their ways of creating an impression includes expensive gifts, and horrible pick up lines. Though airlines do expect their crew to be polite to the customers, sometimes being too nice, ends up creating the wrong impression.

Usually there is at least one crew member, who will be either pouting or smiling at an annoyingly flirtatious passenger. Travelling to the city of love it seemed that cupid had struck many onboard. There was a passenger, who greeted the air hostesses with a cheshire cat grin while boarding. By the looks he was in his early 40’s and had early signs of balding. According to the passenger information, he was a frequent traveller and needed to be greeted personally.

As he had the abbreviation “Dr.” in front of his name my colleague enquired whether he was a doctor of medicine, as he may be useful in the case of an emergency medical situation. Thinking it was an opportunity to throw a pick up line at her, he replied “No but, I can be any doctor if you want me to be” and winks. The hostess just stood there with a blank face, at this awkward remark.

Throughout the flight the passenger tried approaching her despite her showing off the big glistening rock around her finger, and explained that her husband wouldn’t be very pleased to know. However the bitter truth is, air hostesses are not there to teach morals to men in their mid life crisis. He eventually ended up complaining about her to the purser, saying that she was unfriendly and rude just because she wouldn’t give her number to him, even at his lame remark “I just want to learn your language as I will be here for a while!”

The craze didn’t stop once we landed. Another hostess was saying how nice her passengers were today, especially the old Nigerian fellow, who was constantly praising her for a good service. After the flight as the crew proceeded to the hotel, everybody couldn’t help noticing a luxurious limousine parked at the lobby. As soon as this air hostess got off, the driver approached her and handed over an extravagantly wrapped package.

As she opened it, there was the latest designer hand bag which would have cost a fortune. She bluntly refused it, and walked off, as the poor driver ran behind her begging her to accept it as he may lose his job. Eventually it turned out, that it was the so called nice passenger who praised her on the flight with an ulterior motive. However once the gentlemen contacted her, she explained that she wasn’t interested either on short-term or long-term basis to be involved with him. Although some women might be interested in his riches, love cannot be bought.

Love, Dany
