A music video featuring themes and scenes of lesbianism made its rounds recently and seemed to cause quite the stir among the denizens of the Internet.

Comments on the video included a broad spectrum of opinions; many claimed the video came across as a crass attempt merely intended to titillate youngsters with raging hormones than a true to form yet respectful portrayal of a facet of the LGBTQ community. A few claimed that featuring homosexuality was a step in the right direction. A lot more claimed it was a thinly veiled attempt to draw more views.

Weaving together scenes straight out of teenage sexual fantasies instead of a tasteful portrayal is ultimately not the perfect way to champion a movement or the rights of a community already marginalized. But on the flipside, the song may have unintentionally paved way for open dialog on LGBTQ.

So we asked a few people what they thought of the video, and if it paved way for acceptance of a sidelined population in the country. Here's what they had to say.

A cheap attempt at making something controversial for the purpose of marketing his "music" to his main demographic; hormonal, horny, frustrated, socially awkward teen boys and man-children. If it was about "pushing the envelope further" then it sure as h*ll could've been done more tastefully. Instead it feels like the intro to a really bad C-list movie.

Repeating a comment but yes, a cheap attempt at getting more hits and causing a stir. I'm all for LGBTQ but this is sad. In reality lesbians don't look anything like this (well most of them anyway) I've heard people say 'I don't approve gay men but lesbians are okay because lesbians are hot' *eyes roll*. Can't really blame them when lesbians are portrayed this way. Plus, the song is ridiculously stupid, and the video is even worse. Smart move at publicity and gaining hits, but a very classless one.

In general, I think there's many more controversial facts that people should be worried about rather than fretting over petty things like a music video or who married who. If the same volume of people would actually promote something that has value as such as the country's development etc., this country would be better off. It’s not the country that should be developed, it's the people residing in it.
Vishmi

Click bait. We all fell for it.

Cheap, try hard, disgusting, provocative, disappointing, say what you must, but someone's gotta do it first. The stigma isn't gonna go away in one night. Culture shouldn't even be anything to consider in this matter. Cultural and religious norms dictating the media? Didn't know we were North Korea.

This song gave me a headache. Not for the 'so-called' nude scenes but because of the accent of the female singer. Ugh. Coming to the controversial part of the song, this is so cheap and lame. This seems like a censored version cuz I've seen girls wear similar things as saree blouses at weddings. People clearly find ridiculous things to fuss about and I don't know how certain Sri Lankans can fuss after being primary contributors to putting our country on the map for Googling SEX. Oh well…
Dinuk
Self-serving agenda and nothing else. There is zero class about how the scenes have been handled. It seems more like an attempt at fuelling the sexual fantasies of hormonal men in order to get more views. Shame. It's a pity because the song is quite nice.
