VU, the all new roof top resto bar at Best Western Elyon in Colombo 5 was launched just a few days ago.
Derived from the word déjà vu, VU resto bar aims to give its patrons that sense of comfortable familiarity. Going by the theme ‘floating world’, VU lets you disconnect from your usual mundane life and float above the chaos of the city as you sip your exotic drink indoors or out.

Being a lover of open spaces and rooftop hangouts, I really loved this place. It offers a spectacular view of the city. Best Western is a stone’s throw from the city centre and just far enough from its madness to offer a place to unwind and relax. It was awesome to sit around on the high bar stools and really catch the cool breeze as it drifted through the open design of this casual lounge.
Food & Drinks (3.5/5)
At the bar, the beverage menu features a blend of cocktails, mocktails, punches and many more exciting beverage concoctions. When it comes to food it includes everything from starters, such as nachos and salads, to chicken yakitori, burgers, fish kebabs and an extensive selection of meat dishes as well as arguably Colombo’s biggest spare ribs. BBQ chicken, chicken bockwurst and vegetable ravioli are some of the other items on the menu. For desserts they have mixed berry apple pie, VU Velvet and smoky sizzling brownie amongst other things.
For starters they served us couple of dishes. The Caesar Salad with Chicken (Rs. 700) was fresh and crunchy and just how you would expect a salad to be. If you prefer, it can be made with tofu instead of chicken.
The Grilled Vegetable (Rs. 635) was something different and it was alright. It had carrot, cabbage, cauliflower and a couple of other veggies.
The Tuna Pasta Salad (Rs. 780) was the dish I liked the most from the starters. It had onions, tomato, olives and lots of tuna and was a delicious preparation.
For mains I tried out the Jumbo Prawns (Rs. 1950) which came well marinated and served with rice and salad which didn’t disappoint by way of the size of the prawns. The food lacked the wow factor but as it’s just the start, I’m sure they’ll improve as time goes by.

The service was a little slow but I must say the staff were very pleasant and obliging.
Entertainment (4/5)
The live band with the female vocalist in attendance was really super and everyone was enjoying the music.
