MA’s Gourmet Food Packs

MA’s has been a household name among Sri Lankans for three decades, with 2016 being their 30th year in operation. They don’t just produce spices but also have a range of sauces, seasonings, pastes, chutneys, ready to eat curries and pastas as well as an organic range of products, with the idea of giving a helping hand to anyone interested in making home cooking a little easier, without hurting your wallet.

They also operate a demonstration kitchen which can be booked for cookery workshops and even team building exercises. The demonstration kitchen also showcases how MA’s products can be used, and it is with this in mind that they decided to have available delicious ready to eat and frozen take away food packs throughout the week (except Mondays).

Taste and value for money - 5 stars

Their simple but delicious Spicy Rice (Rs. 300) uses the MA's Nasi Goreng Paste as well as the Dad's Garden Garlic and Chilli Sauce to add that delectable punch into the rice. The pack also consists of a large piece of coriander chicken made with the MA's Colombo Chicken Curry Paste and MA's Coriander Powder, tempered potatoes and accompanied with a sweet and tangy cucumber and pineapple salad as well as the Happy Home Chinese Chilli Paste.

MA’s Gourmet also dishes out a yummy Yellow Rice (Rs. 350). The pack consist of the MA's Style Fragrant Yellow Rice. The rice is made with their Yellow Rice Paste while the pack consists of a green curry ash plantain using the MA’s Green Curry Paste and chicken made with the MA’s Colombo Chicken Curry Paste while the batu moju and Happy Home Seeni Sambol serve as ideal rice pullers.

Lamprais (Rs. 450) is also on the menu with the option of mixed meat (lucky for me!) or chicken. The usual accompaniments of ash plantain and eggplant curry as well as a chicken ball, dried prawn paste and seeni sambol can be found in the pack. This too is made using MA’s Spices and Chicken Stock.

All three types of rice come wrapped in a banana leaf and then placed in a convenient foil pack. It is best re-heated in the oven rather than in the microwave as the banana leaf lifts the flavour up another notch.
