Driving a super luxury car is a dream for many. As many such SUVs and high-end vehicles are being manufactured, the craze to drive them too is increasing at a pace. Porsche is one such brand that is known for its sleek and lavish appearance. As means of introducing a unique experience for Porsche lover in Sri Lanka, Eurocars Private Limited succeeded in launching its first driving experience for them. Around 40 driving enthusiasts participated at this two day event which was held at the Katukurunda Racing track last weekend.

Eurocars (Pvt.) Ltd, has been the sole authorized importer and dealer for Porsche vehicles in Sri Lanka since 1996. With over 10 years of experience, Eurocars has grown and taken strides in providing Sri Lankan people an experience on par with other mature markets. This time, six exclusive Porsche cars were brought down from Germany which would worth close to Rs. 80 -90 million. One reason why this experience was given to the drivers was to educate them on safety, speed limits and other functions that could be performed by a Porsche car. The six vehicles thus included a 911 Cabriolet, 911 Turbo, which was the fastest from the rest, Panamera GTS, Cayenne GTS, Macan GTS and Cayman GTS which were left-hand driven. The other vehicle was the 718 Boxster which was recently launched in Sri Lanka.

Therefore existing and expecting customers got a chance to participate in this event and find out what these cars could do.

Speaking to Life Online, the two international driving instructors and a few local driving enthusiasts had this to say:

“I always enjoy teaching and also share my experience and knowledge. Basically they should understand the proper way to drive while enjoying it. In different countries, people have different mentalities and different ideas about driving. I have been a Porsche instructor for more than 10 years. We have lot of training back in Malaysia. I have been to Singapore, Mongolia, Korea and other South Asian countries. The response from the Sri Lankan drivers was good as they listened to us and did as told.” – Faidzil Alang, Instructor (Malaysia)

“Generally in an event like this, the idea is for participants or customers to experience the entire Porsche range so they could understand what this car is about. Therefore they will feel the difference in each of them. Porsche is a sports car irrespective of where the engine is placed. The Sri Lankan market is fairly new for sports cars and the idea is for them to be excited with the sports cars so that they could enjoy more.” – Faizal Asri, Instructor (Malaysia)

“Once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and it was the best experience of my life. I learnt about handling and high speed breaking. It was mind-blowing.” – Indika (participant)

“The event was really good. We had four different exercises which included the acceleration breaking test from 0-100 kmph and back to 0 in 911s. Then we took the 718 Boxster and the Cayman GTS for a Slalom drive where timing was involved. Then we did a lane change exercise with the Macan and Cayenne which was a very thrilling experience. There is also a Panamera handling test. I loved the 911 Turbo because it races from 0-100 kmph in three seconds and that is why many of us are here today.” - Jaikishan
